@Gareth101 @D4vidBlake @ToddKenreck @meagankenrekt I like that. Obviously mathematically a player has a greater chance to score max damage with a single die roll doubled than with two dice rolled. Is max damage not the goal on a crit? That’s why I generally have them roll one die and double it.

@albinokid Be SUPER stingy with magic items! One of the most common novice DM mistakes is giving an over-powered magic item that seems fun at the time, but ends up short-circuiting a lot of things later in the campaign. Those Boots of Fly are gonna come back to haunt ya!

@albinokid Make sure your players are all on the same page that D&D can’t be “won” (not getting killed and taking the least possible damage, for instance) or “lost” (getting killed). It’s about PLAYING YOUR CHARACTER. Win/lose players spread that virus to others and kills the good time.

@albinokid Don’t Don’t DON’T feel like you the DM have to have all the info at your fingertips. Repeat after me: “Oooh that’s a cool spell choice! Good cast! Now give me a quick sketch of what it does and what YOU want it to do here.” And, “Solid hit! How much damage does a falchion do?”
