Can't blame him for playing it safe, but will need more to compound at 20% p.a. Could see him making a play for a power pure play fueling AI boom - e.g., Constellation ($CEG). Guy is clearly a stud. NIA.
6 months in and Greg Abel has managed to play it safe at $BRK.B - for now. Two weak first swings, but expect him to chase with his $400bn war chest. A breakdown of the strategy: ๐งต
$GOOGL was a middle-of-the-fairway play on emerging AI theme and an add to existing position at a decent price. Little risk and perhaps a harbinger for future JVs, SPVs (or private placements), or regular-way financings with Mag 7.
As someone who grew up in distressed before graduating to equities, still don't understand folks who buy "deep value" secular decliners thinking the stocks will eventually re-rate after cost outs and divis / buybacks have run their courses.
Dara worked at Allen & Company as a young investment banking analyst.
The most important lesson he learned from Herbert Allen was to bet on people, not companies.
He followed through when he deiced to bet on Barry Diller.
"I was going to stay at Allen & Company for the rest of my life, but he was the one guy that I told myself, if I have an opportunity to work with that one person, it was enough."
Fundamentals completely divorced from reality. Only familiar with $STRL, but mgmt intimated margins may go higher on last earnings call. Clearly overearning, but itโs become an AI proxy. Could easily see it at $1000 / share. Lot of IPOs that can push mkt higher - Anthropic, OAI, SpaceX.
$NOKโs own words from the 1Q26 earnings call: โIn addition, we continue to make good progress on AI RAN in partnership with NVIDIA, and we are on track to begin field trials by the end of the year.โ CEO Justin Hotard on the strategic pivot in May โ26: โI think what weโre going to be able to deliver based on the early validation and test weโve been doing over the last couple of years with NVIDIA and AI RAN is powerful.โ
Mgmt executing on AI-native RAN stack that could back many more deals with $NVDA or comps. Plus Trump may play it up. Amazing how former tech vanguards are given a second shot - first $RIM now $NOK. $NOK seems like a cheap way to play the telecom hardware pivot. RAN (i.e., the equipment on cellular towers) is being turned into mini data centers to handle Internet, cellular, and AI needs. There is a lot of this underutilized capacity in need of repurposing. NIA. Long both $NOK and $NVDA
@chipflare@evrgn11112231@marc_slans I donโt own the stock - it sucks. But ruling out a future acquisition with a new CEO in a new age with endless dry powder is foolish, imo. NIA.
