After every humiliation in Ukraine or Russia, Putin responds by brutalising defenceless Syrian civilians. And the world barely even notices. So Syrians flee on boats that are unsafe, then drown. And the world barely even notices. Nobody is doing anything to protect them.
As an artist, can I just say: please give us more time. We want to work on your projects, we’re passionate about them, we want to do our best work for them - but not giving us enough time means rushed art, shortcuts and burnt out artists
i just wanted to tweet that the "rad" in our bio is meant to be interpreted as the slang word for "cool" and not as any sort of endorsement for radical feminism/transphobia. trans rights 🏳️⚧️
Safe travels, Ah To.
A few years ago, one of his pieces - visual representations of Cantonese sayings - was on official display in a Shatin park. HK had room for art like that then; now it doesn't, and HK is worse off for it.
I feel like a broken record saying this: I can’t expect HKers to be sympathetic but can we please at least not be assholes scoffing at people fucking starving/ dying.
Sadly, I think oftentimes we can’t separate our (valid) anger against our colonizers/ the authority with cold-blooded hate/disinterest against the people who are often also victims of state oppression.
But if we let ourselves become people whose reaction to other’ suffering is to shrug or rush to reason how they deserve this because they didn’t support us, then we are just going to build the same dystopia we are trying to avoid. One that justifies human suffering.
@NiaoCollective@nmshrzaoiau Yes, if anything it’s more common that people who awaken have difficulty congregating before getting cracked down, or feel so isolated and hopeless in real life that they think the only way is to leave the country (if they have the means to).
