@agraybee A vivacious lady breaks out of the proverbial longhouse, and what do we do? We put her in the literal big house! How's the modern woman supposed to live as a real one if this is how we respond?!
@HHillespie I think there's a strange divide on that subject. People who actually have 4 or more kids tend to be thrifty but not especially vocal about kids being cheap. The ones who are only have two kids and frequently complain about taxes or the costs of exclusive/positional goods.
@viva_thevillage@Vfrdk568639 Broke: Husband cheating on wife with the nanny.
Bespoke: Other woman your husband is sleeping with gets roped in to *becoming* a nanny.
@viva_thevillage The alternatives are basically saying the voters done goofed and we can decide to ignore them, or carry on and deal with the repercussions that the same voters won't like.
@constans Catholic priests, or really anyone walking up to a pulpit, had the time of their lives back in 2004 after the Red Sox won the World Series. For the first time in a long time, Bostonians effortlessly believed in a higher power.
@agraybee@nonbinaryplanet Wasn't Trump's reelection supposed to give these people something more interesting to talk about? It's very strange to see the people suposedly starved for juicy tidbits go right back to gnawing the same worn out bone so soon.
@agraybee@bigseb31213 Online leftists seem somewhat divided between switching to a new line in the sand, or sticking with Israel/Palestine. The latter has proved more durable than I would have anticipated albeit in a "Why Kamala Harris is the only one truly at fault" sorta way.
@ComputerEnjoye1@agraybee@redhotnerd@MissesDread Is it actually Millennials, or is it Zoomers finding one picture or video of somebody doing something that looked fun and concluding that it was last year of joy for humanity?
@mangrove_t@agraybee Could be? I have no clue which of these crowds outnumbers the other or votes more reliably. I assume Susan Collins has been there so long because the somewhat conservative older people are the most consistent bloc.
@HHillespie Old parents and it runs in families. You get a bunch of people who seem to have done most everything right when it comes to family formation end up with a weird kid. Said kid might not have a bad life, but having a good one will require very specific things of them.
@viva_thevillage Maybe I'm too cynical, but I'd guess most of those grieving for the nation's social fabric would not like the costs of repairing it. Can't recall who said it, but the sensitive young men might not enjoy a country where they are expected to work at a hotel or something.
@viva_thevillage Every day, I see dudes say stuff like this in defense of some weird guy with a podcast or a drug problem or both. Nobody ever seems to say "Heck, I guess my mom had a point. I should thank her."
@constans Even compared to other conveniences, frequent car travel seems to make people *very* intolerant of minor inconveniences. I get why you would use a car for transporting groceries or whatever else, but suddenly you can't fathom carrying anything more than a blocks?
@viva_thevillage Whoa. I didn't even think of that. "Well, shucks. I've been meaning to replace some of this cheap, worn out furniture and get some new drapes. I don't suppose you have any ideas?"
