Imagine Alberta told B.C.

“Your Okanagan wine, lumber and freight can’t cross Alberta unless you pay us royalties and satisfy our political demands.”

Canada would call it outrageous.

Yet when Alberta wants access to the Pacific, Ottawa effectively gives B.C. that kind of leverage.

B.C. gets access east through Alberta.

Alberta gets tanker restrictions, political conditions and negotiations over B.C. receiving additional economic benefits from our energy corridor.

This is where independence changes everything.

As a province, Alberta has to fight Ottawa for access to markets.

As a country, Alberta controls its own territory, its own energy exports and its own negotiating leverage.

B.C. needs Alberta too.

Its goods need eastbound road and rail access through Alberta. Its economy depends heavily on Alberta energy. When Trans Mountain went down in 2021, B.C. was forced to ration fuel.

An independent Alberta could put a simple deal on the table:

You want guaranteed access east through our country?

We want guaranteed access west to the Pacific through yours.

No access west?
Then don't expect unlimited access east.
That is the leverage Alberta gains with independence.

Two countries.
Two trade corridors.
One reciprocal deal.

@RoaringRagnar I'm surprised he went on there. The Economist is such a biased rag. It's funny, with a name like "The Economist" you'd expect some academic/journalistic rigor to the reporting but its mostly propaganda. A case of an authoritative sounding name being used to lie to you.

One thing that is actually *underappreciated* about Elon is his humility

He's talking to a reporter who is, by her tone and framing of questions, clearly trying to chide and belittle him

It’s not obvious that the richest man in the world would do any of this.

She is clearly trying to provoke him iwth gotcha soundbites like "do you think about why people loathe you" "do you think what you're doing is good for western democracy"

The tone is clearly "wouldn't you like to apologize for how evil and shameful you've been"

He's taking minutes of his time (idk how to estimate their dollar value) to do submit to this

He keeps responding calmly and genuinely stating what specifically he believes

He is not flexing his own accomplishments, power, or knowledge as anything other than a regular person who refuses to be shamed into conformity

He is clearly trying to engage with her rather on the content of things rather than just "win"

The irony of all of her barbed questions and implied moral superiority is that despite every reason to be the opposite, Elon is actually **more humble** than she is.
