The same reason why they only had two mayoral candidates.
And probably goes some way to explain why only 11% of the electorate voted for the "winner".
At a time the city needs people who can step up, the best we can hope for is that they don't screw up too badly.
Labour have appointed the ‘Babes in the Woods’ Cabinet. A group of naive and inexperienced people whose only reason for being there is they weren’t chosen by the other Mayor Anderson.
What is notable about this result:
1,259 is the sort of result that normally sees Labour elected in most wards. Opposition candidates supposedly only managing low hundreds.
Low levels of Labour support winning vs what? A boycott?
That defies belief.
Again a big thank you to everyone who has put their faith in me for another term as councillor for Church Ward.
I'm overwhelmed by the number of lovely emails from residents today. It's going to take a couple of days to reply to them all.
All opposition did well against a backdrop of a local paper that has favoured Labour relentlessly, provided little to no coverage, and even helped spin stories of Labour's wrongdoing.
The front page was "We have been FAILED".
70% not voting suggests so.
I came in 3rd 15 votes Behind our councillor of more than 30 years. Thank you to everyone tho helped 💚 congratulations to @StephPitchers on ur @StMGreens win and well done to @danfieldsend and @davemorgan76 for running amazing campagins in @GreenbankGreens and @WavertreeGreens
@BBCNWT @Joanne4Mayor referenced the need to distance herself from the old politics of @lpoolcouncil under @joeando58 and work to a brighter future, with the government commissioners who are now running planning, highways and regeneration in #Liverpool#accountability#transparency
Stephen Yip, the Independent who came second to the new Liverpool Mayor Joanne Anderson, says his 40.8% share of the vote should be a wake-up call for Labour. He says the new Mayor's Cabinet should not include anyone who served in Joe Anderson's two administrations:
I know all our human-human contact is limited right now. But who here has been hearing people saying they are voting Labour, rather than voting Stephen Yip?
I've heard a lot of people say Yip is getting their vote.
The only words I've heard about Labour haven't been polite.
Hmm.
@cllrkemp It's not great that the Greens or Liberals didn't make gains, though. All opposition counts. At this stage, where 70% of the city allegedly didn't even vote, I think it's fair to say we are in a bad place which will give serious criminals a great deal of encouragement.
@no2jericholane Anyone else looking at those 2nd choice vote allocation numbers... and thinking "hmmm"?
If yvoting LD, Lib, Con or Green it's for a reason. Especially with the first three it's a vote against Labour. So why put Lab as 2nd choice?...
And if they didn't, the numbers are impossible.
@GlynnParry1974 @Andrewmakinson@PaulPaul49 Are those like the "tartan tories" that Labour used to try calling the SNP?
Or the red worse-than-tories that stole from their own, ruined our city and presided over a council where employees were worried for their physical safety?
Your party is toxic, in more ways than one.
Get out, do your bit or dont moan. You can make a difference. Turnout looking low in our polling station if the pencil lines on addresses are anything to go by
Still over two hours left of the day to make sure you are heard above the 18%. Not voting last time resulted in the worst corruption crisis in our city's history.
Liverpool can't begin to recover with Liverpool Labour in charge.

What kind of council does Liverpool want to have?
One where people care about the city they represent and work for?
Or one where people fear for their safety, and the government has to protect their identities?
Vote today, and vote against Liverpool Labour.
Another former office block. 2008 it was full and generated hundreds of thousands in business rates and more in employment benefits.
After years of stalled redevelopment, today it's a tatty, mostly empty conversion that contributes nothing.
Vote for jobs, not Liverpool Labour.
How many times have Liverpool Labour played the innocent and promised the earth before an election?
How many of the promises came true? And just how innocent are any of them, after a decade of propping up Anderson?
If you don't vote, they get to stay.
First we're told the city mayor is vital. Then we're told they want to give us a say after all (just not yet). Then (when they can't be sure who it will be) they say they need to get rid after all. Then they find out it's too late and pick a 2 x bankrupt as candidate.
Labour.
