#OnThisDay in 1914 110 years ago my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather James Ross was killed after only 9 days at the front. Killed in shelling with the Gordon Highlanders.

No known grave. An update on last year that I have now located a poor quality image of him.

As of today the KING’S BADGE is now the highest award in the Boys' Brigade!

We currently have 6 King's Badge candidates in Rosehearty, with 3 due to complete in 2025 and 3 due for completion in 2026.

Two of our candidates, Tayler and Kaelyn, met the King at Braemar last year.

Delighted to have my g g grandfather Robert Strachan’s Victory Medal returned to the family this week. Killed in 1917 it’s unfortunate that the Church of Scotland is about to desecrate the War Memorial he is remembered on in the town’s Kirk. Old brass has value.

Granda Watt's 1st cousin who was killed on 07/061944 during the #DDay landings, aged 29.

Buried at Hermanville Cemetery, France, the personal inscription on his stone reading "Man's inhumanity to man makes countless thousands mourn".

As a defeated party in CofS v Fraserburgh I wonder what the victor @churchmoderator must have thought during her visit when assessing the spoils: a sparsely populated sea of gray. All that Disruption to secure 15 years tops in a building meaningless to our town. Cha-ching though!

In Fraserburgh they didn't build the Church. They didn't pay for the improvements. They didn't maintain it. Now its due for closure the cong are told they are still liable for repairs. When they sell it though, Edinburgh gets the cash. Ethically bankrupt.

@cofslifeandwork @theboysbrigade @NeilstonChurch If churches are all that vital to communities why are the CofS closing them all? More so, why are they ignoring the communities they claim to serve & forcing through unpopular closures when there are clear, supported alternatives? Heard the story of the pious man in the flood?

@TheScotsman @alistairkgrant An admission of failure. If only 60k (demographics?) out of a population of 5m+ attend regularly how can it be a national church? They should be disestablished and have the property empire/baggage they inherited confiscated so it can benefit the nation when sold; not just the 60k

This evening our lantern was lit Blue to celebrate 140 years of the @theboysbrigade . A special baton from His Majesty the King arrived with his message which was read by Hon Mrs Kate Nicolson Dep Lieut of Aberdeenshire! The light was blue for 140 mins @TheBBScotland #140Baton
