Today, I’m mourning my friend Melissa and her husband Mark, as we mark one year since they were assassinated in their home. Melissa was a dedicated public servant who worked every day to improve the lives of Minnesotans. That should never have cost her or her husband their lives.
Being elected to serve our communities should never be life-threatening. From state legislatures to the White House, it’s time for our leaders to stand against armed political violence.
My heart is in Minnesota and with Sophie, Colin, and the entire Hortman family as they continue to grieve this tragic loss.
We miss you, and think of you often.
Session is wrapped. Spring is in bloom. I’m retiring soon. You two would have thrived in retirement. I trust you’re living it now.
We have our arms wrapped around your kids. They’re remarkable. We love them.
I can’t believe it has been one year since Melissa and her husband, Mark, were taken from us.
Melissa was not only my dear friend, but she was also a remarkable woman whose strength and compassion left an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. I miss her every single day. She was a force in every sense of the word, leading with courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to Minnesotans across our state. She never hesitated to stand up for what was right, to fight injustice, and to use her voice on behalf of those who needed someone in their corner.
Although the loss of Melissa and Mark is still deeply felt, their light will continue to shine through the countless people whose lives they changed. ❤️
One year ago today, Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were senselessly murdered in an act of political violence.
In their memory, we recommit ourselves to the values that Melissa and Mark exemplified: building a kinder, more just, and loving world.
In the year 2026 we should be focusing on how we improve life for working families, reverse climate change and strengthen international law.
Instead, led by Putin, Netanyahu & Trump we see more wars & human suffering and increased spending on weapons of destruction.
Pathetic!
We lost Melissa and Mark a year ago. Woke up to a sunny morning in their honor. They loved to go out with their dog Gilbert or garden or just hang out with friends and family. Remember them today and go out and do something good.
Elon Musk, the wealthiest man alive, gutted USAID, which supports some of the poorest people in the world.
Now there's an Ebola outbreak in the Congo, which USAID could have helped prevent or slow.
When you dismantle the systems that stop deadly diseases, people needlessly die.
In the United States we need hundreds of new hospitals and health clinics.
We need thousands of new child care centers.
We need millions of new units of affordable housing.
We do NOT need to spend another $500 billion on the military for endless wars.
I predicted someone like Trump many years ago, in THE DEAD ZONE. So now I'm saying this--in the next 12-16 months, we're going to find out if the two machines for the removal of a man unable to fulfill his duties actually work. They are impeachment and the 25th amendment. He is deeply unwell .
This is what it looks like when we stand up for each other.
Not because it’s easy. Because it matters.
That kind of energy doesn’t disappear after one night. It’s how we move forward, together.
🚨BREAKING: ICE agents just shot another person… and once again, they’re claiming the victim “weaponized a vehicle” to justify shooting at the windshield ELEVEN+ times.
Federal agents say they were trying to arrest Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez in Patterson, California… claiming he’s a gang member wanted for questioning in El Salvador.
Then… like clockwork… they say he tried to run an officer over…
So, they opened fire… unloading at least ELEVEN shots into a windshield.
And it ended with Mendoza Hernandez in the hospital…
While somehow, not a single officer was injured.
Eleven bullets through a windshield isn’t “defensive”… it’s excessive until proven otherwise.
At this point, the real question isn’t what happened…
It’s why the official story is always the same… and why it starts to unravel the second real evidence shows up.
Because that’s what keeps happening. Over and over.
And when ICE and DHS get caught lying…
Why does accountability just… disappear?
Release the street footage.
Release the body cam footage.
All of it.

Apocalyptic scenes in Lebanon’s capital right now.
Israel has launched 100 airstrikes on Lebanon in 10 minutes.
Striking South Lebanon, Beirut and the Bekaa Valley simultaneously.
This isn’t a ceasefire.
It’s mass bombardment of civilian areas.
No great surprise. Netanyahu talked Trump into the disastrous war in Iran.
We cannot allow Israel to continue shaping U.S. military and foreign policy.
Next week I will be offering a resolution to stop U.S. military aid to Israel.
Threatening to wipe out an entire civilization is morally bankrupt and a major war crime, risking the lives of innocent civilians - including children.
He seems detached from reality. I don’t know who (if anyone) can get through to him. Congress needs to step in and stop him.
