99% of life outcomes are decided by:
Who you marry.
What you choose to do.
Where in the world you live.
You can think of these as the 3 engines that power your life.
They disproportionately drive your:
Achievements.
Lifestyle.
Success.
But most people spend less than 1% of their time thinking about these decisions.
Don’t be like most people.
Ask yourself:
How will my partner help or hinder my goals?
Will the skills I have and my day-to-day job give me more or less freedom?
Is where I’m living going to be the ‘hot spot’ of innovation over the next decade?
Scared of the answers?
That’s a good thing.
Questions you can’t answer are better than answers you can’t question.
Technology has always changed how we work.
The plow transformed farming.
The factory transformed manufacturing.
The modern office transformed information.
Now, the internet and AI is transforming humanity.
Why do I write every day?
For messages like this…
Writing can be:
Hard.
Annoying.
Frustrating.
But the impact you can have is incredible.
Persistence pays off. Keep pushing.
If someone consistently sits next to you in a cafe day after day (despite the cafe being completely empty): Does this mean they want you to ask them out?
I write best in the morning.
After a long day of work, the last thing I want to do is write.
Writing in the evening is a painful process for me.
My ideas suck,
My writing quality is poor,
And I often have to redo the work the next morning.
So I ensure I give myself at least 1 hour of writing time in the morning.
I’ll wake up earlier, push back meetings, and make any sacrifices to make it work.
It’s never perfect.
There are days when I want to sleep in.
Moments where I want to quit.
But I persist through it all.
Structuring my day to write guarantees I write everyday without fail.
Even when I have a bad day, I can get into bed knowing that I’ve given myself the best time of my day to write and create.
It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done.
Every hour before 9 is worth double every hour after 5.
Dear aspiring writers,
If you only have 10, 15, or 20 minutes per day…
Start there.
Don’t overwhelm yourself.
The one thing I see that kills most online writers is doing too much too soon…
… and then quitting altogether.
Start small and scale slowly.
Writing is a marathon.
Remember:
Most writers burn out from indigestion, not starvation.
Most life problems in my life can be solved with:
- 7-8 hours of sleep.
- 30 minutes in nature.
- 60 minutes of writing.
- 45-60 minutes of exercise.
All simple. Free. And very effective.
(Maybe some Durian too).
I restarted my Substack in July 2024.
I’ve now crossed 700 subscribers on my 90th day on this platform 🥳🥳
Here’s what I learned:
2-3 daily Notes = rapid growth.
Become known for one thing.
Build a network of writers.
Do this for the long term.
I see Substack as the place where I continue to grow, build, and take my writing to the next level.
A MASSIVE thank you to my readers who made this all possible.
Here’s to the next 100 subscribers!
Without writing failure,
Writing improvement is literally impossible.
Start stacking up those failures.
Your writing in 6 months will thank you for it.
Writing is the most efficient vehicle for distributing value to strangers worldwide.
Everyone’s literally got a private plane at the tip of their fingers.
But they use it to numb and distract themselves.
That’s not you.
Find value.
Create value.
Write about it. Connect with others.
Daily writing commitment:
Draft a full Medium / Substack article.
Submit one Medium / Substack article.
Write 4-5 Substack Notes / Tweets.
Write one email newsletter.
Write one LinkedIn post.
Turn a previous article into a resellable digital product (course, checklist, etc).
Time requirements: 2-3 hours.
Skill requirement: Writing.
Over time, this builds into an incredible amount of leverage and recurring income.
You don’t need:
A fancy Macbook.
A perfect environment.
An expensive keyboard/pen.
You need to sit down and write.
To be the best writer you don’t need resources.
To be the best writer you need to be resourceful.
