@FlerfHerder @PostNASA Better way would be to aim the laser at a tall flat vertical surface that you can measure the height of the beam. Also have a mid way marker at the same elevation above the water eg. laser setup 2m above water level. Mid point wall with a hole 2m high

The warehouse video is far too pixelated to see but also false. On flat surfaces bottom up obstruction is impossible if your eye line
