the system was updated yesterday to factor in a more accurate estimate for the total gold amount, which is a good amount less than the previous estimate

for clarity:
total points = 1/2 airdrop
total gold = 1/2 airdrop
total points = total gold
total points / total gold = ratio of points per gold

since the denominator got smaller the ratio goes up

tldr the value of gold in terms of points was underestimated in the past and now that's been corrected
