The Sports Councils of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and UK Sport have announced they will update their 2021 Transgender Inclusion in Sport guidance.

We have questions.

❓Is this a delaying tactic to evade providing fair and safe sport for women and girls?

❓Will today’s announcement be used as yet another excuse for sports’ governing bodies to delay complying with the law?

We’ve had the ‘waiting for EHRC guidance’ now we will get the ‘waiting for Sports Councils’ guidance’. There should be no more delays. Every sport should be legally compliant. Now.

❓The Sports Councils knew this day was coming. If they were going to write their own guidance why isn’t it in place today?

SIXTEEN months since the Supreme Court judgment allowed plenty of time to have written new guidance - the IOC managed it within six months of the appointment of Kirsty Coventry to the top job.

❓Why are the Sports Councils writing new guidance when the 2021 document stated that males can be lawfully excluded from female sports?

❓Why won’t the Sports Councils state that all sports and recreational activities must follow the EHRC Code of Practice?

The EHRC document is crystal clear: sports that have a female category must not include males. Any activity that states it is for females must only be for women and girls.

❓How many more hundreds of thousands of pounds of public money will the Sports Councils waste on producing guidance that:

a) was already in place
b) is covered in the EHRC guidance?

Don’t reinvent the wheel. Just apply the law.

I have strongly recommended to the CEDAW
Committee that "it amends the portions of the Concluding Observations that clearly contravene international human rights principles and jeopardize the lives of women and girls globally".
