Those who say Minnesota’s fraud reporting is “politically motivated” should revisit the facts: Whistleblowers CC’d Gov. Walz’s Chief of Staff Chris Schmitter on multiple emails pleading for help when DHS leadership ignored or buried concerns. He never responded.

In 2023, Schmitter attended the DHS picnic and stood beside Jodi Harpstead, declaring full support for the Commissioner’s actions—even as internal reports warned of mismanagement and systemic failures. What message did that send to DHS staff about raising concerns?

Then in 2024, at a taxpayer-funded “equity” forum, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan dismissed whistleblowers as “weirdos in their mom’s basement.” How can Minnesotans trust oversight when leadership publicly mocks those trying to report fraud?

Whistleblowers also point out that around this time, a new 6-figure “Children’s Cabinet” position was created for Schmitter’s spouse, Erin Bailey.

Minnesotans deserve to know:
• What exactly does the Children’s Cabinet do?
• Who are its staff?
• What outcomes justify its budget?
• Besides hosting school-related events for the Governor, what measurable work is being done?

The public has a right to ask: Is whistleblower suppression tied to protecting politically connected leadership instead of protecting Minnesotans and taxpayer dollars?

Transparency is not political.
Accountability is not political.
Ignoring whistleblowers is political.
