NEW: ICE confirms to @FoxNews that the suspected DUI driver who ran a red light while speeding in Albuquerque & crashed into a 22-year-old man’s car, killing him, is in the U.S. illegally, & ICE has placed a detainer on him with local authorities after “establishing probable cause of removal from the United States.”

Jesus Sandoval-Martinez, 21, was arrested early Monday morning, after police say he tried to flee the scene of the crash and appeared to be impaired, slurring his words. He is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in great bodily harm or death, and is currently in custody at the Bernalillo County jail in ABQ.

Police say he while in his Dodge pickup, he ran the red & crashed into two vehicles that had a green light, a Tesla & a Corolla.

The driver of the Tesla, 22-year-old Tiger Gutierrez, died as a result of his injuries. His passenger was hospitalized.

Per source, Sandoval-Martinez is a Mexican national with no Social Security number, and he didn’t have a valid driver’s license.

ICE tells me they have no prior encounters with him.
