As a Brit, I've been watching the American election results with sorrow for my American friends. Some are comparing it to the Brexit vote here, imagining if we'd voted for Brexit twice. But here's the thing... in a sense, we did. And here are some lessons from it. 🧵

As we start to hear the finger pointing punditry, let’s not be confused. The deep roots of racism, sexism and xenophobia is what happened here. America has always been an idea and white supremacy remains the original sin and the enemy of our ideals. Capitulation isn’t an option!
Fascism is antithetical to the human condition. It always burns itself out.
What matters is that we protect as many people as possible until it does.
And that we step up to fill the vacuum in true leadership and bold policy that Democratic leaders refuse to fill themselves.
