Today, we have some positive news to share. For the upper peninsula and portions of northern lower Michigan, temperatures will be quite seasonal today, reaching the low 80s and upper 70s depending on your exact location.
Further south, temperatures in the 90s with heat indices reach int the low 100s remains the story today. BUT this should be the last day of this “extreme” heat - meaning we will begin a downward trend towards conditions that are still quite muggy and warm, but not as extreme as the last few days.
Scattered storms remain a possibility across the state today with isolated severe weather on the table in the form of damaging winds to 60mph.
Happy Friday!

A hedgehog mom takes her 4 tiny babies outside, and during the little walk, she keeps looking back again and again to make sure every baby is still following.
Tiny steps, big mom energy. 🦔❤️
CHECK THIS OUT! A strong thunderstorm is moving into view at our Manistee camera in northwestern lower Michigan, and check out those scud clouds/shelf cloud being back-lit by the sunset. A very beautiful and yet ominous view. Time is 9:12 pm EDT 6/30/26.

Sheridan Gorman's mother Jessica to Democrats in Congress:
"When did protecting our American citizens stop being your first priority?... I challenge you all to sit down with me, take my hand, look me in the eye and explain it to me because I just don’t understand. Explain why people here illegally matter more than your American citizens? Explain why sanctuary policies matter more than my Sheridan’s life? Explain why cooperation with ICE was too much to ask for but asking our American parents to bury our children is somehow acceptable?"
SUNSET WATCH: Saharan dust will be in the air today and tonight! While we do not expect this to impact air quality, we MAY see a vivid sunset tonight as dust particles in the air often lead to more vibrant colors.
This dust originated in Africa. It became lifted and caught into the east to west moving trade winds and then carried and deposited into our jet stream.
Are you KIDDING us?! A triple rainbow spotted yesterday in Au Gres, MI courtesy of Brandy. This was captured after a strong thunderstorm moved by, with a Samsung S26 Ultra, with slight digital enhancement to make the colors pop according to Brandy’s word. Triple rainbows, while rare, do occur often when there are three internal reflections inside water droplets. Prior to modern photography, only a couple instances of triple rainbows were documented over multiple centuries.

Happy longest day of the year (by daylight hours)! Everyone in Michigan receives over 15 HOURS of daylight today, not including twilight hours either.
Enjoy the daylight while you have it. It has been a long six months, but summer is back!

I stopped three steps from the gate, removed my coat, and rolled one sleeve. The sign was clear. Black metal, sharp letters, a beast caught mid-lunge. BEWARE OF DOG.
In my country a notice like this is a kindness. The host warns the guest: prepare yourself. So I did. My mouth went dry. I opened the gate slow.
From behind a flowerpot came a noise like a squeaky toy with opinions.
Then a small white dog walked out. It was the size of a loaf of bread. It sat. One ear stood up.
My friend came out drinking coffee. He saw my coat on the ground, my sleeve rolled to the elbow.
"Oh, that's Biscuit," he said. "He's friendly."
Friendly. A test, surely. The beast hides its form to measure the visitor. I knelt and offered my open hand, the way you honor a worthy opponent before the bout.
Biscuit licked my thumb and rolled onto his back.
"He likes belly rubs."
The creature demanded tribute. I gave it. Both hands, full sincerity. Biscuit kicked one leg in the air. I had passed.
Then he trotted to the porch, returned with a wet tennis ball, and dropped it on my foot.
A second trial. I threw it across the yard with everything I had. Biscuit watched it fly, looked back at me, and did not move.
"He doesn't fetch. He just likes you to hold the ball."
So I held the ball. The whole afternoon. You do not drop the duty handed to you by a worthy beast, even one shaped like bread.
When I left, the sign still stood. BEWARE OF DOG. It had not lied. I was leaving with a wet sleeve and a small white commander I would think about for years.
That's a wrap on astronomical spring 2026, and what better way to send off the final day of the season than with a gorgeous sunset over Lake Michigan, courtesy of our GarJen Technologies/6 PM Hospitality weather camera in Manistee, MI.
Our historically warmest three months of the year are coming up next! Are you ready Michigan?
