Never seen this before: I’m told it’s the Roman symbol for 100,000. I just saw it on an inscription dated c AD50 in Verona. It resembles a pumpkin (thousands of seeds?) or maybe an M with double brackets that each multiply by ten?
@Kit_Yates_Maths One of the idiosyncrasies of the scoring system is that 30 all appears redundant. Why not call it deuce? Impressed to see another book is on the way.
