🚨 Big opportunity to help shape the future of Martyn’s Law regulation 🚨
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is inviting organisations expected to be within scope of Martyn’s Law (The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025), and those with an interest in the legislation, to review and comment on its draft guidance.
To support the consultation, the SIA is hosting a webinar for NTIA members on 8 June at 12:00pm, providing an overview of the draft guidance and highlighting the key questions where industry feedback is needed.
With Martyn’s Law expected to come into force in Spring 2027, this is a valuable opportunity to understand how the SIA intends to regulate and, importantly, to help shape the guidance before it is finalised.

A reminder of the importance of trust, safety and professionalism in our communities.
The tragic death of 18-year-old Henry Nowak has shocked people across the country and raised serious questions about decision-making, accountability and public confidence in our institutions. Our thoughts remain with his family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
While the circumstances of this case are now subject to official investigation, the incident has sparked a wider national conversation about policing, community trust and how individuals are treated in moments of crisis.
For those of us working across the night time economy, this is a timely reminder of the immense responsibility carried by every professional tasked with public safety. Whether in security, policing, hospitality, transport or emergency response, the ability to assess situations fairly, communicate effectively and respond appropriately can have life-changing consequences.
The night time economy thrives on trust. Trust between the public and police. Trust between venues and local authorities. Trust between security teams, emergency services and the communities they serve. When that trust is shaken, the impact is felt far beyond a single incident.
At a time when social media can rapidly amplify division, speculation and misinformation, it is essential that facts are allowed to emerge through proper investigation and due process. Accountability matters. Transparency matters. Public confidence matters.
As an industry, we must continue to champion the highest standards of professionalism, training and partnership working. We must remain committed to creating safe, inclusive and well-managed environments where every individual is treated with fairness, dignity and respect.
The lessons from this tragedy must help strengthen the systems, relationships and decision-making frameworks that exist to protect people.
Safety is not just a responsibility. It is a duty.

Today's Tube strike action is another major setback for London's hospitality, leisure, tourism and night-time economy. Businesses across the capital rely heavily on office workers, commuters, visitors and tourists travelling into central London, and the loss of footfall caused by transport disruption is simply unaffordable for many operators already facing significant economic pressures.
The prospect of further strike action leading into the week and weekend is particularly concerning, with hospitality businesses depending on strong trading periods to sustain jobs, investment and growth. London's restaurants, pubs, bars, clubs, cultural venues and attractions are a vital part of the capital's economy and visitor offer, and prolonged disruption will be felt far beyond the sector itself.
Despite the challenges, it's a busy day ahead.
Starting with a team catch-up this morning, followed by lunch with Santi Perez at German Gymnasium in London, plenty to discuss. This afternoon we'll be catching up with our Regional Industry Ambassadors, meeting with Katy Porter from The Loop to discuss developments in drug checking and testing, before finishing the day with a website development scoping session.
A big week ahead, lots of ground to cover, plenty of conversations to have, and as always, advocating for and supporting our industry every step of the way.

London Underground strike action is causing major disruption today, with no service on the Circle and Piccadilly lines, partial closures on the Metropolitan line and disruption on parts of the Central line. Further industrial action is planned for Thursday.
Labour remains under pressure over the release of the Mandelson files, with ministers defending redactions and missing messages while critics continue to scrutinise the disclosures. Attention has also focused on comments from Pat McFadden about taxation and welfare, reigniting debate within the Labour Party.
Sadiq Khan is backing calls for a social media ban for under 16s, arguing that tech companies must do more to tackle harmful content and misogyny online.
Communities Secretary Steve Reed is set to announce a £10 million expansion of High Streets Rental Auctions, aimed at helping councils bring empty commercial properties back into use.
One year on from the Strategic Defence Review, the government is still yet to publish its Defence Investment Plan, with ministers promising it will be released before the NATO summit in July.
The net zero economy is now worth more than £100 billion a year, according to new research, adding fresh fuel to Labour's ongoing debate about green investment and economic growth.
New reports released today suggest many families continue to struggle with living costs, economic growth is expected to remain subdued into 2026, and concerns persist over low levels of investigation into fly tipping incidents.
In Europe, Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is expected to remain in office after securing agreement on a new centre left coalition government.

One of the standout conversations from the Night Time Economy Summit was with Nathanael Williams of Colour Factor and Jumbi, who shared his perspective on the power of culture, creativity and community in shaping thriving night time economies.
Nathanael spoke about the importance of creating spaces that bring people together, champion local talent and offer authentic experiences that reflect the identity of a place. His work through Colour Factor and Jumbi demonstrates how hospitality, music, food and culture can act as catalysts for economic growth while strengthening community connections.
The conversation highlighted the need to support independent operators, nurture emerging creatives and recognise the wider social value of the night time economy beyond its economic contribution. As cities continue to evolve, creating inclusive and culturally rich spaces will be essential to building vibrant destinations that people want to live in, work in and visit.
A huge thank you to Nathanael for sharing his insights and experiences at the Summit.

Westminster is bracing for a turbulent day as the government prepares to release around 1,000 pages of the long-awaited Mandelson files. The documents are expected to reveal private WhatsApp messages and emails between Peter Mandelson, ministers and senior officials, including candid remarks about Keir Starmer and behind-the-scenes advice from Mandelson to Cabinet members.
While insiders expect plenty of embarrassment and political fallout, the current view inside government is that the revelations are unlikely to trigger resignations.
Nevertheless, the disclosures could have significant implications for Labour’s internal factions and future leadership contests, particularly if they expose the depth of relationships between Mandelson and senior figures.
Alongside the document release, Westminster is also debating NHS reform, delays to the Defence Investment Plan, new social housing legislation and counterterrorism support measures. With Labour facing mounting political pressure and fresh polling challenges, today’s publication could prove to be one of the most consequential political moments of the year.
For us, today is also focused on a series of internal meetings, a catch-up with NPS Luke Richards, interviews with Ira Lapina and Henry, a drop-in with Sam Tarry, and ongoing communications work with DCMS as we continue developing the narrative around electronic music and its cultural and economic contribution.
Good things. #Politics #Westminster #Labour #Mandelson #UKPolitics
From Hanoi exploring extended overnight services to keep visitors in the city longer, to Germany taking bold steps to protect and reclassify nightlife culture, the global conversation around the night-time economy is evolving fast. Across the UK, outdoor celebrations, music festivals, cultural events and experiences like Belfast Whiskey Week continue to demonstrate the enormous economic, social and cultural value of our sector.
Yet at the same time, destination pubs face higher tax burdens, concerns around ticket touting continue to impact music fans, and businesses across hospitality, nightlife and live entertainment remain under increasing pressure.
The message is clear. Governments and policymakers must recognise that the night-time economy is not simply entertainment, it is a critical driver of tourism, employment, culture and community. Whether it's supporting live music, protecting grassroots venues, enabling later trading, or creating fairer operating conditions for businesses, the choices being made today will shape the future of our towns and cities after dark.
The night belongs to everyone. It's time to back the sectors that keep it alive. #NightTimeEconomy #Hospitality #LiveMusic #Nightlife #Tourism #Culture #NTIA
