Brightness as a SupernovaIf/when Betelgeuse explodes as a Type II supernova, it would indeed become an incredibly bright object in our sky. Most models suggest it would peak around the brightness of a half-moon to quarter-moon for weeks to months — easily visible in daylight and casting faint shadows at night.
Some estimates note it could briefly approach or match full Moon levels in bolometric (total energy) output right after shock breakout, but the sustained visual brightness is more like 10-50% of the full Moon.

It won't outshine the Moon dramatically for long, but it would still be spectacular — a "new star" in Orion visible even during the day for a while. No danger to Earth at ~500-700 light years away.

SizeBetelgeuse is a red supergiant with a radius estimated between roughly 640–880 times that of the Sun (it pulsates, so it varies). If placed at the Sun's position:It would swallow Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.
Its outer layers would likely reach near or around Jupiter's orbit (Jupiter is at ~5.2 AU), depending on the exact phase and measurement. Older estimates had it comfortably beyond Jupiter; more recent ones (accounting for its extended atmosphere) put it a bit short of that in some models.
