Very good article by @JudithREvans in the FT on the challenges facing farming - worth a read! What sort of agriculture and environment do we want - not only in the UK but globally? With Brexit & agriculture subsidy reform now is a good time to decide!
@herdyshepherd1 The Highland Bookshop in Fort William @HighlandBks is worth a mention- lovely space, great staff and interesting author speakers - all most welcome. Good range of books for all including second hand with specialism as you might expect on outdoors & Scotland.
@curlewcalls Loving the book! You might enjoy the bird photos of Ron Macdonald many taken at #forvie and #lochofstrathbeg in Aberdeenshire. I think they are fabulous and deserve a wider audience @ronpon_ron on Twitter and ronpon22 on Instagram
A surprising bit of balance from the BBC - Why this cattle farmer moves his cows every day - carbon footprint and cattle. Maybe not in the US but grass based is how UK has always done it.
βItβs not the cow, itβs the how!β Couldnβt put it better myself. https://t.co/RDtk4Y6OUF
Happy retirement to Jack Stephen who started working for my father in 1969 - a mere 50 years ago! Always a straight furrow behind the plough and an immaculate tractor as well as being very good with livestock . We will miss him and wish him well π #farming#thisisdairy
#milk - a drink for #heroes! π₯π π¦πΊπ Australia bushfires: 'We owe you milk' say firefighters who saved man's house https://t.co/FVf16e33ZC
Listening to @BBCRadio4 - a meat wholesaler trumpeting the low price of Brazilian π§π· beef over British π¬π§ - βItβs 1/3 cheaper! Great value for moneyβ.
No; it isnβt.
@NaturalScotland No - it will only happen when people choose and are prepared to pay for food which has been produced sustainably rather than buying everything on price. This will require a change of culture, better communication from farmers who do care and support from the supply chain.
@MarkAvery Thanks for sharing. Is this data split by farming type and geographically to help identify causes? Itβs disappointing that 20 years of habitat creation initiatives on farm seem to have had little impact. What simple actions would you recommend farmers take to reverse the decline?
Wow - my @guardian piece on sustainable livestock farming made it into the βbest articlesβ segment of @TheWeekUK.
It shows how the story of progressive π¬π§ farming can really cut through when given a chance πππ
βPOLL TIMEβ Do you believe it is more important than ever to invite the public on-farm?
We would welcome any comments on your choice, we are keen to learn how important on-farm engagement is to both farmers and the public.
What a week! The excitement of the support of @Morrisons in placing our yogurts in more stores #supportlocal with this devastating news for us and many other local farms that Muller have given notice to Aberdeenshire dairy farmers⦠https://t.co/76NEitYBX0 via @pressjournal
At Oosterbeek for The Battle of Arnhem memorial service. Humbled by the courage and selflessness not only of the soldiers who fought but also of the local Dutch population. #Arnhem75#letsbuildbridges π¬π§π΅π±π±πΊ
A delight to have Hefin Richards @HefinR of https://t.co/8zpVK1Kwve on our farm challenging us and other #dairy farmers to go from good to better. Focusing on the fundamentals of #transitioncowmanagement Many thanks to Lorna @ConsultingSAC for organising a great meeting.
