Dear CHOs of Australia,
This emerging approach to COVID testing (i.e. Don’t test unless eligible for antivirals) is wrong from a public health perspective and will cause harm. 🧵
Workers need to know if they have COVID, as opposed to a common cold:
@BurkeHellibee@elenasongsong@lorraindeer Of course, it’s possible to have few risk factors and still develop an illness. And also to have many, but live to old age in good health. But it’s important that we understand how to manage risk factors on an individual and population level.
Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview in March 2025 with the understanding it would only be released after her death. This is her final message from it.
@VeysiCe@mehdirhasan Damaged children become narcissists and sociopaths who are a danger to society, especially women and children.
Irrespective of Trump, Musk or Vance’s sad origin stories, they must be contained to stop further global ripples of destruction from their monstrous, fragile egos.
@WolfmannotJack@ZdenekVrozina No, that sentence is talking about the COVID-OUT trial, an earlier trial whose results they were able to replicate. Read down a bit further and the abstract says that Metformin started within 90 days was the relevant inclusion criterion.
The Covid emergency is over, and the U.S. is joining other nations in shifting to a risk-tiered approach.
As we laid out in the New England Journal of Medicine, we are using Gold Standard Science and Common Sense:

@JamesThrot Data that will make a difference IMO: pop-level or large linked paediatric datasets, comparing clinical (not biochemical) LT outcomes, with controls.
Policymakers are currently just using national hospitalisation and mortality data- short term acute data for short term politics.
@YouAreLobbyLud Clearly, I was incredibly naive. But I’m still discouraged, disappointed and appalled on a daily basis and carrying moral injury that always simmers under the surface.
@YouAreLobbyLud I never thought we’d advise unreported self-testing for the #1 infectious cause of mortality
Or that we’d tell parents that a novel disease was harmless, w/ 12 months of data
Or that we’d reverse-engineer public health control guidelines to fit political purposes.
@j_g_allen Signing a “deal” to allow yourself to be extorted for hundreds of millions of dollars while having your admissions policies and academic content monitored by fascists? That’s what Columbia has done.
I’m afraid it is obvious that history will not be kind to these universities.
@NateB_Panic Banning kids from social media isn’t the same as general censorship. It may be cack-handed, but the principle has merit - we are doing a VERY bad job of managing our relationship with a medium that has potential to destroy democracy, our attention spans and human intelligence.
@arianhod_o@aparachick Sorry - background knowledge of infection / disease control, from my work. What settings are riskier, mitigating factors etc. So a quick assessment of ventilation, for example.
