YASIN MALIK CHOOSES DEATH PENALTY, DIVORCE

Separatist leader Yasin Malik has told a Srinagar TADA/POTA court he will not contest trial proceedings in the murder case of Kashmiri Pandit nurse Rubaiya Bhat, instead seeking capital punishment.

In an affidavit, Malik said the decision followed “Istikhara”, an Islamic prayer seeking guidance before major decisions.

He has also decided to divorce Pakistani wife Mushaal Malik, saying she should not bear the burden of his circumstances or live as a widow.

Malik denies involvement in Bhat’s murder, claiming he learnt of it from an Intelligence Bureau officer identified as “Roy”.

How does a Republic that asks its soldiers to fight for the nation allow one of them to spend 24 years fighting for what he says is his rightful due?

This is the story of NK Shivananda Reddy, a medically discharged Army veteran who was injured during the Kargil era, allegedly attempted suicide on August 29 after years of pursuing land and other military entitlements in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur.

In 2022, Reddy had approached the Lokayukta over an alleged ₹10 lakh demand to process his land allotment. Three people, including two government employees, were arrested.
Years later, he alleges that officials showed him unsuitable land, ignored repeated representations and failed to resolve his entitlement.

Now he is in hospital after consuming poison.

Why didn’t women feel the need to self-immolate when their kingdoms fell to any other adversary?

You can’t be dumb enough to not draw the only possible conclusion here.

Nobody glorifies jauhar, it was not picnic.

We “honor” it. No, not the immolation itself but the debilitating sentiment behind it. With the honor we keep our alive in our collective memory. Know why?

Because the demons that drove our ancestors to such extremities still live and breathe amongst us to this day.
