Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman—a unique symbol of courage and patriotism. Among those who inspired us to know the history of the Liberation War and love Bangladesh, Bir Sreshtho Matiur Rahman stands out. At just 30 years old, this brave young man, driven by selfless patriotism, set aside his love for family and children and embarked on a daring mission. Despite the risk of death, he made that difficult decision without any hesitation for the sake of the country. As a Flight Lieutenant, he deeply understood the importance of an aircraft in the battlefield. On August 20, 1971, he attempted to hijack a T-33 training aircraft from Pakistan to join the Liberation War. He was almost successful in this endeavor. Evading the Pakistani forces, he crossed Pakistan’s airspace. However, the aircraft ultimately crashed, and he embraced martyrdom.On his martyrdom anniversary today, we remember his great sacrifice with deep respect.
