@CamboJimbo@BenPhillips_ANU If your argument is that tax concessions for super are way too high, then we are singing from the same hymn sheet. Very hard to wind them back - talk to Kelly O'Dwyer.
Aus much wealthier now than '83 so spending on retirees will go up.
@BenPhillips_ANU That is except for a debt hangover and above target inflation. At least interest rates are normalising which will take the froth out of asset prices.
@Ron__Jon8s@Nyscat The NDIS needs more good news stories to balance the focus on abuse.
It's a massive failure of public administration, won't be addressed without cultural change at DHS. That's not going to happen when ministers are captives. That said, the expenditure growth is unsustainable.
@HonTonyAbbott To put that in some context, in WW1 and WW11 the US joined us. Some might say a bit late. In Korea we joined a UN force.
Post then enough said.
@tiberiusfiles The 'Islamism' of Iran post 1979 is fair in the same way that Israel has become an ethno-extremist state post the 1995 assassination of Yitzhak Rabin.
@DaveSharma You're grandstanding on misery. For the moment they have no way home. Moreover, they have not asked for asylum.
We could put them on a boat, but the Yanks would probably torpedo it.
@BadCustSvc101@hawford You're right. Couples have or had an advantage. Once two incomes became the norm the advantage was lost and higher prices made most people looking to buy worse off. That's why the solution is on the supply side: more, better located and smaller dwellings without stamp duty.
@BadCustSvc101@hawford The recent 5 pc deposit measure allowed the share FHB to increase relative to investors. Prices at the FHB end of the market picked up. Interest deductibility unless combined with an imputed rent tax is a bad policy. IRT for Owner Occupiers crazy brave but good policy.
@BadCustSvc101@hawford FHB can deduct mortgage interest. Impact, they'll take on more debt pushing up prices. I think the outcome would be perverse. You were on the right track with your first post.
@BadCustSvc101@hawford Don't follow. Paying the mortgage interest of a FHB would cost taxpayers far more than any tax concession investor gets
Will increase demand for properties upping prices.
There are no quick fixes. Only fiddles for some.
@BadCustSvc101@hawford 1. much of the surge in NOA was caused by Morrison govt uncapping student work hours exploited by dodgy education providers.
2. 5 years free mortgage interest far more costly than 5pc first home buyer deposit measure.
