@Veganforever67@BladeoftheS Talking with emotion and passion is exactly how you get people to believe in lies (or anything), yes. It cues the listener into thinking the speaker is more sincere. Is that a good thing? Probably not, but we're human so what can you do.

@p3t324@ecobadger@JamesForTW@BiteYourBrum Indeed, but if 65% of stabbings are committed by white people, and you have seen 0 news stories covering those, but lots of stories covering the other 45% of cases, what does that tell you?
@AstroMikeMerri@Heccles94 It surely depends on the circumstances? If you were genuinely unaware of wrongdoing, then through extensive external background checks, wrong doing was found. Would an apology carry more weight than if you had known you were committing wrong doing until caught?
@ecobadger@p3t324@JamesForTW@BiteYourBrum I suspect many people, whatever they read, could be unaware of that.
What we all need to agree on, is that we want to understand the truth, and therefore need a reliable way of getting the truth.
We need cross party discussion and agreement on how to forge such a thing.
@p3t324@ecobadger@JamesForTW@BiteYourBrum Such as:
All media within the 'news' genre must be regulated by an independent body such as IMPRESS.
Must not be allowed to lie about factual information (op eds excluded), including liability for interview comments.
Must provide adequate context.
This should help everyone.
@p3t324@ecobadger@JamesForTW@BiteYourBrum What it is, is a deliberate editorial effort to show only crimes committed by people that aren't white, in order to convince readers of a problem.
All media have agendas, which is why I think it's vital we get cross party support for significant media regulations.
@LeeHurstComic Remember that during a time of 95% top rate taxes, GDP growth was double that of today and debt to GDP continued to decrease. All the while, massive infrastructure projects were happening all over the country.
@LeeHurstComic This would be an excellent way to accelerate Chinese dominance.
It seems crystal clear from the last 80 years, that if you enable increasing wealth inequality, which the reduced top rate taxes and selling of government assets has done, then GDP growth drops.
@alan_h_stone@Heccles94 Are you factoring in people that own multiple homes? Not just those with second homes, but significant portfolios.
What about private equity firms that are buying up large volumes of residential and commercial property?
Don't you think this might have an impact on supply?
@by_niels21222@MichaelAArouet Also given the fact that economic growth fell during Thatchers tenure, even after the 'awful' performance of the 70s due to middle eastern conflict, I'd say put the writing on the wall that the policy changes spelled disaster in the long term.
@by_niels21222@MichaelAArouet You are quite right, it did continue to reduce under Thatcher, my apologies. Though I'd say that the 250% to 50% debt to GDP ratio decrease due to the economic policy from 1948 to 1979 shows impressive performance relative to subsequent years.
@by_niels21222@MichaelAArouet Debt to GDP continued to reduce until Thatcher came along. Despite an oil crisis in the 70s, GDP growth that decade was better than every decade since then.
It's hard to isolate variables, but I don't think you can blame joining the EU for the radical changes Thatcher brought.
@TheUNITValVerde@AaronBastani I'm familiar with the idea that the country was 'bankrupt' in the 70s, but go and look at the growth figures and debt to GDP ratio yourself. Worse figures in the 80s and onwards.
What you said is completely contradicting history, which is the current political problem: Lies win.
