🎂⛵️Oceana's Ranger turns 40 today!
Built in 1986, she has had many lives at sea, and for the past 21 years, she has been at the centre of ours.
Help her keep going. Donate today for our ocean, our marine life, and our planet.

As part of the Week of Action for Nature in Spain, we are calling for management plans that deliver real ocean restoration.
With new #Natura2000 management plans on the way, this is a key moment to turn restoration into reality.

Last week, at the @UN_FAO_GFCM SRC-WM meeting in Málaga, Mediterranean countries agreed to adopt the Cabliers FRA - a landmark step for deep-sea protection.🌊
But the work doesn't stop here. Vulnerable habitats at 800 m & beyond urgently need stronger, science-based protections.
Oceana, junto a otras organizaciones y científicos, ha reclamado ante @gobmapa medidas urgentes para la protección efectiva de los espacios marinos protegidos.
Sin planes de gestión ni financiación adecuada, no hay conservación marina efectiva.

🌍 On #EarthDay, we join over 100 organisations in Spain standing up for nature.
For our ocean and ecosystems over short-term profit. For ecological restoration at the heart of public policy. For collective action this spring.

Massive geopolitical shift in conservation. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney just announced a staggering 3.8 billion dollar strategy to protect 30 percent of the nation's lands and waters by 2030. A monumental step against corporate destruction of the environment.
BREAKING: The @goib has once again postponed effective protection of Cabrera National Park until 2027, after proposing to safeguard nearly 600 km² to halt biodiversity loss.
This delay leaves vulnerable species, from deep‑sea corals to sharks, without real conservation measures.
As a public consultation ends today for a new management plan for Cabrera National Park, Oceana urges @goib to avoid further delay to preserve its rich sealife.

Today, the world turns purple to honour the strength, courage & determination of women everywhere.💜 Women scientists, fishers, advocates and community leaders continue to drive the work needed to protect marine life & ensure a fair and sustainable future for all.

Small‑scale fishers depend on a healthy sea. It’s their resource, their livelihood, their future.
The crisis they face isn’t caused by the #CommonFisheriesPolicy, but by years of weak enforcement & inconsistent implementation by national governments: https://t.co/bPo5eheKpH

What does wild-caught shrimp cost?
All the species you see here die for this little handful.
As a marine biologist, I'd love to tell you in detail what a long-term ecological disaster bottom trawling is, but few would read it—so look—let this image speak to you.
🦑 Did you know that the squid we eat can come from regions that are notorious for illegal fishing & human rights abuses?
Oceana's recent investigation shows that many squid products sold in the EU lack basic information such as species & origin.
Consumers deserve to know more:
Six months after the #OceanPact, where the EU committed to tackle flags of convenience, we call on the @EU_Commission and @CostasKadis to act: publish the study on the impact of this practice and ensure that EU Member States monitor foreign ownership of fishing vessels.
