Sinclair Ferguson’s paraphrase:
“There are actually only two pastoral problems you will ever encounter.
“The first is this: persuading those who are under the dominion of sin that they are under the dominion of sin. That’s the task of evangelism.
“And [second], persuading those who are no longer under the dominion of sin that they are no longer under the dominion of sin because they are Christ’s.”
— Sinclair Ferguson
As you start new resolutions, remember:
Spiritual disciplines are not about making you more precious to God. They’re about making God more precious to you.
Freedom as an end or an abstract idea can be empty.
The meaning of freedom is found in asking...
What is your freedom for?
What are you free to do?
Who is free?
Who can we free?

Leaders who are unwilling to wait value planning, schedule, and goals more than people. This causes them to think of and treat people as obstacles in the way of their leadership rather than as those who are to be served by it.”
— Paul David Tripp
The guy who emerges from the shadows at #sbc22 to tap nominators on the shoulder is how I imagine the death angel doing his work. Tap. Tap. Your time is up.
Roe may be overturned today.
When my grandchildren ask me what I did on that day, my answer is not going to be "Argue with other people who also wanted to see the end of legal abortion."
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow.
Thank you, @drtonywolfe and @jeffhlynn for the last episode of the Church Health and Leadership pod! A much-needed and encouraging word for this pastor!
I think it's wise for folks to spend some significant time in ministry, helping lead people thru suffering, sitting at hospital bedsides, meeting with them across the table at diners, before you become a kind of evangelical prophet declaring how wrong every leader is.
It takes a while to see that the things people applaud in your life are often the things that will wreck your soul. Bigger, better, faster might be found in the devil's playbook. But small, slow, and the cross were surely in Jesus’ (see Matt. 4).
