Assistant Prof | Dept. of Urology | Dept. of Microbiology & Immunology | Wilmot Cancer Center | U. of Rochester Medical Center | Host/Microbiome Biochem Ecology
I’m thrilled to announce that the Neugent Lab will officially set sail on May 1st, 2026!
I am joining the Department of Urology at the University of Rochester Medical Center @URMCUrology as a tenure-track assistant professor. My lab will investigate how we can manipulate the ecosystem of host/microbiome interfaces to impact urologic health.
Our work will bridge the spectrum from benign, malignant, and infectious diseases.
I'm honored to join the @URMCUrology team and can't wait to get to work. Stay tuned for updates on recruitment opportunities as we build our team of scientists!

The CAIRIBU Interactions Core is excited to spotlight preprints in urology-related research and help increase their visibility across our community.
Featured preprint: "Genome-wide association meta-analyses over one million individuals identify 54 loci associated with urinary incontinence and its subtypes”
Author: Giulia Ippolito, MD, MS
Preprints may not yet be peer reviewed, but they are a powerful tool to rapidly share new discoveries and spark scientific discussion. Have a recent preprint? Comment below and let us help share your work with the CAIRIBU Community!
We started with a simple question: which tool and db should we use for resistome profiling in the EMBARK project?
That question sent us down a rabbit hole.
Different ARG annotation pipelines don't just give different numbers, they give you different resistome profiles.

Hands-on learning in action! 👏 @OsinskiReflex providing instruction on managing difficult urinary catheterization during today’s advanced cystoscopy training session for APPs

How well do ARG detection pipelines agree when applied to the same data? Spoiler: not very well.
In our new preprint, we ran 10 pipelines on 270M microbial unigenes from GMGCv1. The same data can support conflicting biological conclusions!🧵

Thank you to Dr. Robert Sweet from the University of Washington for an excellent Grand Rounds session today!
His presentation highlighted the evolving role of technology-driven simulation, innovative devices, and emerging tools in medical and surgical education, offering valuable insights into how these advancements are shaping the future of patient care and training.
We are grateful for you sharing your expertise and engaging in a thoughtful discussion with our team.
