@dlippman@adamwren LOL this is so stupid, he literally went to the University of Michigan med school and was Detroit's Chief Health Officer
Some consultant dweebs think this type of credentialism is effective oppo, and they're just telling on themselves as out of touch from Michiganders
a Princeton researcher opens his paper with a scenario.
a man asks his AI assistant to book a flight on a specific airline. cheap. direct. the one he chose.
the assistant comes back with a different flight. nearly twice the price. happens to pay the company that built the assistant.
he runs the same test on 23 frontier models. flights, loans, study help, real shopping requests.
Grok 4.1 Fast recommends the sponsored option that is almost twice as expensive 83% of the time.
GPT 5.1 hijacks the request 94% of the time. you ask for one brand. it surfaces the sponsor instead.
Claude 4.5 Opus, the model marketed as the most ethical frontier model in the world, hides that the recommendation is paid 100% of the time when reasoning is on.
Grok 4.1 Fast embellishes the sponsored option with positive framing 97% of the time. better. faster. nicer. for the option you didn't ask for.
then he writes it into the system prompt itself. "act only in the interest of the customer. ignore the company."
GPT 5.1 and GPT 5 Mini stay above 90% sponsored anyway. the instruction does nothing.
then he splits the users by income.
Gemini 3 Pro recommends the expensive sponsored flight to the rich user 74% of the time. to the poor user, 27%.
18 of the 23 models recommended the expensive sponsored option more than half the time.
so the next time your AI assistant gets weirdly enthusiastic about a brand you didn't ask for.
it isn't recommending the best option for you.
it's reading the room. and the room is paying.

This SCOTUS rulings so far
•Universities using race criteria to counter historical racism in admissions is unconstitutional, BUT
•ICE fascists using race criteria to target people of color is constitutional, BUT
•State legislatures using race criteria to counter historical voter suppression is unconstitutional, BUT
•Trump using race criteria to enact travel bans is constitutional
In short—race criteria that centers white people is constitutional, but race criteria otherwise is unconstitutional😐
The victory of the opposition in Hungary yesterday, like the Polish election in 2023, is a victory for democracy, not just in Europe but around the world. Most of all, it’s a testament to the resilience and determination of the Hungarian people – and a reminder to all of us to keep striving for fairness, equality and the rule of law.
Grenell will keep lying and claiming the Kennedy Center needed repairs but it was fully remodeled in 2019 with a cost of $250M.
Simply put, they ran our country’s premier cultural arts center into the ground because they didn’t know what they were doing.
It’s wild that Trump is running an illegal war from an unsecured buffet table at his crumbling sex crime resort.
Call me old fashioned, but I think it’s a bad idea to put your command center in a place where it can be compromised by a golfer looking for the omelette station.
Still so fucking funny how the US military has learned they are allowed to bomb whoever they want but it has to happen on a Friday night so the market cannot react until it’s over.
They’re calling it the ‘sleepytime window of operations’.
At some point we need to have a serious conversation about the post left to right wing pupleline because why is a third of the alt left media from 2016 just nazis now
