It’s been eye-opening to see the pain one of our competitor Postgres services has caused to customers we are working with. I’ve never seen anything like this for an OLTP Postgres database: connection dropouts, restarts, outages, and more and all of this every few weeks!

At the same time, there are all these wild claims about the “fastest Postgres”, how agents need millions of databases, and more.

The essential trait of any Postgres/OLTP database, whether in the AI world or before it, is simple: It should never ever crash!

The stories we’re hearing from customers are absolutely wild. I really hate commenting on competitors like this, but I couldn’t resist this one mainly because of the pain they are causing and all the marketing misinformation around!

We evaluated hosted and self-hosted solutions and landed on self-hosted @hyperdxio for a few reasons:

1️⃣ We were already running HyperDX in each region for logs.
2️⃣ We can collect logs, metrics, and OTel into one single database.
3️⃣ @ClickHouseDB allows us to bind each regional instance as REMOTE instances, which federates queries so we have a "global" view instead of four dashboards to maintain.
4️⃣ We already knew we enjoyed working with ClickHouse, since we built our product o11y features on it.

We're still hand-building alerts, but we've been experimenting with a Claude Code agent with read access directly off ClickHouse, Kubectl, and our codebase with very promising first impressions.

So we’re opening them up.

Demo Days give you an early look at features as they’re being developed. Some will ship, some are still evolving, and some are experiments, but all of it is shared so you can see what’s coming and help shape the product.

Retention limits, sampling, and roll-ups. We've been told these are "observability best practices." They're not.

They're workarounds imposed by systems that can't handle full-fidelity, high-cardinality data at scale.

This may have worked when humans filled gaps with intuition, but it doesn't work with AI.

Agents need complete context, not approximations. They can't reason over missing data, sampled traces, or pre-aggregated metrics.

What were once optimizations are now real constraints and blockers for the next generation of observability.

@thallescomumh @apolzek @func25 @hyperdxio Curious what part you're finding expensive/heavy - CH can be tuned to be pretty lean (our local mode I think tunes it to be pretty minimal in footprint).

Though of course it's all relative - it isn't going to run on an embedded device yet 🥲
