@rasmansa Is it considered racist to suppose that culture and societal constructs over time have led to different outcomes in specific areas (on average). This may be a difficult needle to thread but seems to me to be an important distinction.
@kevinnbass Very interesting. I’m T1D - I’ve considered going low carb with the hopes of better management but haven’t stuck with it for long. Anything in the literature showing any delineation between T1 and T2 as relates to A1C and low carb?
@thesweettype_ Ah, I get your point. I once had a nurse at my GP’s office tell me that if I dropped a few pounds I’d probably get rid of my diabetes. Really pissed me off at the time.
@ErinSMiller47 @AngelaDSaini Thank you for the thoughtful response! Would it be fair to say that artificial selection for single highly heritable traits (i.e. height) could he artificially selected for over time? This seems self event but I’m admittedly a layman.
@AngelaDSaini Where was Dawkins advocating for eugenics? Seems to me he was specifically pushing back against claims that it’s, by definition, “pseudoscientific”. Morality aside (which I completely understand is a big lift), the science is sound, no?
@RogueNotary This is a great point. I find myself arguing with bad faith attacks against straw men in my friend groups equally on both sides though. Not sure if I’m just a contrarian or if I actually have a point sometimes.
@gia_42 @i0sTaila I’m not suggesting it’s a good decision to take the job (sounds like it’s not). Rather, the market ultimately dictates something or someone’s worth. If you believe your time is worth more, counter or decline.
@stones_malone @antihero_kate Exactly - it’s incredible how infrequently I see this point raised. I liken it to BMI: on a group level it’s an accurate tool for assessing healthy weight. Zoom in to the individual and it becomes wildly unreliable (anyone that lifts weights is overweight).
