@andrewkrok Definitely not conspiracy thinking. Pricing wonks found out they'd get n% more profit this way and split the options. It's trim-level packaging strategy (which Honda is exceptional at) spread across brands. A+ capitalism. C- at being good for customers.

At the new rates vs current gas prices, my Rav4 PHEV, which gets 3.4 miles/kWh and 38mpg when not plugged in at all, will be 34% more expensive to run on electrons. Until winter when it does 2.5 kWh/m. Then it's 50% cheaper on gas. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
