@GoDaddyHelp@GoDaddyPro How did my SSL renewal go from $6 a year for the last three years (including one renewal period) to being charged $600 for two years without warning?
Answer from @photomatt:
โThatโs a good question. Well, one, we can lead by example and so I will now reveal that I was actually going to give this slot or create an additional slot. I invited Dries [Buytaert] to come speak here at this very WordCamp. So heโs the founder of Drupal. โฆ
So I think weโve always been pretty good about inviting others in. โฆ
I think some projects do do things better than others and software can have features thatโs directly better or worse, but I think what we could do a lot more is learn from that.
The code is there โ if they like some code that we wrote better, they can copyโฆ in fact they should copy and paste into their project and vice versa. That is the entire point of open source.
Maybe take some time, do a presentation like: what are the best things about Drupal? What do people love about it? And what can we learn from there?
More working together I think is the way forward.โ
@photomatt, Joomla turned 21 on Monday, and you have spoken at the Joomla World Conference and many other Open Source events. Why do you think so many people in WP, Drupal, Joomla, etc., are so tribal instead of focusing on FOSS vs. cloud source options?
Question (@Mike_demo )
โHey, Matt. Mike Demo. โฆ So, on Monday, Joomla turned 21 and you spoke at the Joomla World Conference. Thatโs actually where we met the first time way back then. โฆ And many other openโsource events.
But why do you think so many people in WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, etc. are so tribal instead of focusing on trying to focus on open source?
Iโve had thousands of conversations with tons of developers in all these communities and they all are โWordPress is better than Joomlaโ and thereโs all this infighting which I have never understood.
So what can the project do to try to stop that?โ
