THE BIZARRE HAIRCUT RONALDO USED TO FOOL THE WORLD

Before Brazil’s 2002 World Cup semi-final against Turkey, Ronaldo Nazário suddenly shaved almost his entire head, leaving only a small crescent-shaped patch of hair at the front.

It was not a fashion choice or an act of superstition. It was a deliberate distraction created by the Brazilian striker.

At the time, Ronaldo was suffering from pain in his leg, and the media were constantly questioning whether he would be fit to play. After the serious knee injuries that had once threatened his career, every detail about “The Phenomenon’s” physical condition became a major story.

Ronaldo later explained:

“I had pain in my leg and everyone was talking about the injury. So I decided to cut my hair and leave that small part at the front. When I arrived at training, everyone saw my haircut and stopped talking about the injury.”

The plan worked immediately. Journalists and supporters became obsessed with his strange new look, allowing Ronaldo to escape some of the pressure and focus on the decisive matches ahead.

Years later, even Ronaldo admitted that the haircut looked terrible:

“It was horrible! I apologise to all the mothers who had to watch their children get the same haircut.”

Despite being mocked by its creator, the hairstyle became one of the defining images of the 2002 World Cup.

Ronaldo scored the only goal against Turkey, struck twice against Germany in the final and finished the tournament with eight goals, leading Brazil to their fifth world title.
