This was my first post, made on 1 February 2023, back when I was just 16 years old! This account has come a long way, and I certainly did not expect it to become this large. I hope you all enjoyed the history of the Afghan military, as much I have.

@SamAnders133677 @sarahadams From what I’m seeing, Massoud tried to close the Salang Tunnel before the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, he also tried to do the same during the Battle of Jalalabad, and then a year later, the CIA instructed Massoud to shut the Salang Tunnel again.

@SamAnders133677 @sarahadams I remember reading somewhere that Massoud purposefully decided not to close the Salang Pass, or else it would cause issues for normal civilians in Kabul, who had nothing to do with the fighting.
