๐ฌ๐ง๐ฏ๐ต๐ฎ๐น Britain Rushes to Save Tempest Fighter Programme
The UK Treasury is taking direct control of funding for the ยฃ12bn+ GCAP/Tempest sixth generation fighter jet programme amid concerns over rising costs.
A fresh ยฃ6bn injection is expected, as London races to secure the future of its next generation stealth fighter before current funding expires on June 30.
Without a new long term deal, more than 4,000 engineers working on the UK Italy Japan programme could be reassigned.

@ArmchairAdml Even if it makes it more expensive to produce in the UK, we could just cut the fuel duty on UK produced fuel and gas to make it cost equivalent to the consumer.
@ArmchairAdml the middle east would save oodles of emissions. We could also legislate the UK refinement to be as efficient as reasonable possible to make it the greenest carbon based energy. And then it will isolate us from the cost spikes of the global market.
@Sam_Cranny Probably largely essential but not for evry individual soldier. Split this across a section / squad in exactly the same way we have before for other specialist equipment like IED Jammers.
@Defence_Index So are we saying the Challenger in fact doesn't outgun current Russian MBTs?
We're either saying what we have now doesn't do that or this is a nothing statement to pretend MOD procurement is doing something well.
@thinkdefence Maybe this leads into what truly is the marines role. Are they elite high North cold warfare troops, or operating out of *MRSS* launch raids in far off lands.
I think there's scope to begin to really bring the Army into the high North as a specialism, tied into the JEF.
@TBrit90 Board them, seize the contents, release them in the direction of origin.
All the maintenance, fuel and crew costs as normal for Russia. No product reaches destination. Trade blocked. Russia weakened. Fund through sale / use of siezed produce / resources.
@EleyWilhel484@nicholadrummond In hind-sight I agree. It needs to be able to perform in peer conflict. Realistically a fully resourced combined-arms bde is sufficient for UK expeditionary requirements. Leave that to the light mech bde of 1 div. Keep the two med mech bde's for typical per fighting.
@MtarfaL@TightToffee Almost every current factor in defence, less GBAD and artillery, currently needs priority focus on increasing availability and delivery speed over buying more and more equipment we won't see for years.
Focus their whoel tike on their departments issues and not waste time trying to learn the government's position on geopolitics that aren't relevant to your position.
Am I wrong on this?
I know people want to hold ministers to account but I've never understood why we expect every MP to fully understand the government's vuew on every topic.
Surely as an education minister I actually don't want her to have a clue about defence issues...f
