This is completely indicative of the hubris that has permeated throughout American urban planning; it's how we've built everything over the last 70ish years.
No foresight, no regional planning, just whatever wherever. We're Icarus and our wings are beginning to melt.
Local politicians live a wealthy lifestyle thanks to bribes and "perks" from developers who use substandard materials/methods to build "luxury" high rises, condos/offices are empty but everyone profits, and actual ppl keep paying higher & higher rents to sustain the whole grift.

But when my American friends get laid off… they actually have to provide a reason for the gap in employment, whether by choice or my lay off… and boy, they better like what you did during that time “off”!

I was at a wedding one and a big-time LA developer who will remain nameless thought it was lame the bar was not open, dropped his black card, and then announced to the wedding, that the bar was now open.
As a retired chief, I will say that one officer escalated that pretty unnecessarily. I can absolutely see why he is on administrative leave. That’s not how you handle that situation. He should have attempted to de-escalate by explaining why he needed him out of the car. If
