Great to join the Community Planting Day for a new project that has transformed a public space in Newington Green.
A brilliant example of how local people, groups and businesses are coming together to make our borough greener and healthier.

It’s all there: grassroots activism, race relations, poverty, adventure playgrounds, the need for prisoners to have constructive activity, the Barnsbury-Cally contrast.
This area is now the Westbourne Estate. In 1970 the Tories ran Islington Council. Labour won it back in 1971.
I’ve watched this short film about Islington about a dozen times this year. It’s 50 years old but some of the conversations feel so contemporary.
If you have 25 mins to spare please watch it. If you only have a few mins go straight to 10.30 and 16.30. https://t.co/vM3WiCQ63q
"Islington has a long and proud history of offering sanctuary to those in need, and stands ready once again."

🚨Important info 🚨
The eviction ban ends today.
Landlords will use this to claim that people with rent debt have to leave their home immediately.
But you only have to leave IF your landlord follows the proper process. This can take many months.
Pass it on.

"I stand here incredibly proud to be the first Black woman to become the leader of Islington Council... It is a privilege and an honour to serve in the best borough in the country."
- Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz @KayaJunction makes history this evening!
There’s an even bigger group of activists (some pictured) who are coming up through the ranks. They’re a breath of fresh air! Massive credit to the BAME leadership programme @JennetteArnold. And to @jeremycorbyn who’s been out every day championing Labour in spite of everything.
Congrats @angeloweekes23! Really, really looking forward to working with you!
It’s a bad day for the LP nationally but locally there’s much to be cheered by. With five new councillors @IslingtonLabour is becoming much more representative of the people we represent.
The winner of the Mildmay ward by-election is Angelo Weekes (Labour). The full breakdown of votes received by each candidate will be published at https://t.co/rcS1dOYAwN
