The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) congratulates the newly elected National and Branch leaders following a successful democratic process, after the official announcement of results by the Independent Electoral Committee (IEC) yesterday.

These leaders are the product of a robust constitutional process that the union has refined over time, reflecting the collective voice and vision of our members across the country. Our doctors have selected a team equipped to steer the union toward a future of progress, navigating the unpredictable tides of the healthcare sector with dedication and clarity.

🚨 JOB SCAM ALERT – PROTECT OUR YOUNG DOCTORS 🚨

It has come to my attention that fraudsters are actively targeting young doctors through fake “urgent job opportunities.”

The scheme is calculated and dangerous:
• A scammer calls a consultant, posing as a representative of a reputable medical organization.
• They claim to have an urgent job opening (often for a “young doctor, 1 year post-internship”) with an interview scheduled immediately (e.g., “tomorrow”).
• The consultant, acting in good faith, shares contacts of young doctors seeking opportunities.
• The scammers then contact these doctors, conduct fake interviews, issue fraudulent job offers, and demand payment for:
• “Good conduct certificates”
• “Processing fees”
• “Employment facilitation”

Several young doctors have already been defrauded of money through this scheme.

⚠️ Be warned: No legitimate employer will ask for payment to offer you a job.

🔴 WHAT YOU MUST DO:
• Consultants:
Do not share contacts of young doctors without verifying the requesting organization.
• Young Doctors:
Do not send money for job offers—no matter how urgent or convincing.
• Everyone:
Verify all job opportunities through official institutional channels.

The Kenya Medical Association – Young Doctors Network (KMA YDN) has confirmed that multiple cases have already occurred.

My fellow doctors,

Nothing would have been possible without your immense support. When the clarion call was made, you showed up, not for acknowledgment, but to be part of a sea of doctors walking, singing, and carrying placards.

From my position of privilege as your Chairman, I thank you. The profession is indebted to your extraordinary service, courage, and faith.

My guiding compass has always been the belief that you act as part of a bigger team. It's not about being in front of the camera, but about the collective effort, where the striker, defender, and cheerleader all celebrate together. That is the fiber of this union.

Congratulations on our collective achievements. Forza KMPDU, Forza.

We have faced existential threats, when Intern Doctors were deemed "not doctors," when attempts were made to fracture this union built on blood, sweat, and tears. We sailed through triumphantly. The price of that is eternal vigilance.

Now is the time to build on the foundations of the last 5 years.

Together, we achieved 95% implementation of our CBA in a country that rarely honors them. Now, we must finalize the next cycle CBA within two months, as the SRC directs. This is no time to learn on the job.

The 2017 CBA is our collective pride, even as we acknowledge unrealized goals. A critical group is still missing arrears, allowances, promotions, and health cover. Your issues are not ignored. We will not stop until universal benefits are achieved.

We are also handling everyday issues, promotions and career bottlenecks, on a county basis. Our visits will intensify immediately to resolve these matters.

Health cover cannot wait. We have moved from half the counties lacking cover to 90% having a facade of it, but "better" is not "good enough." We demand uniform, comprehensive cover nationwide, nothing less.

We made strides in postgraduate training, defeating UoN's fee hike. Now we must focus on timely fee payments and a national government fund to allow counties to hire replacements for doctors in training.

Our biggest fight ahead is restoring automatic postings after internship and securing massive hiring, like the police and army. With Kenya's doctor ratio, we need 18,000 more doctors to meet WHO recommendations.

Colleagues, we would not be here without your dedication. We meet at a crossroad. Do we build forward momentum, or tear down the structures we have built on promissory notes?

Armed with your experiences and conversations, I, Abi Mwachi, am fired up and ready to go.
