@aegiyolksMD Preach, Brother! They have given us a chance to connect and understand God which we would have remained ignorant of without their education.
@aegiyolksMD How good of him to follow Christian teachings. Although we are unfortunately in a master-slave relationship which goes against God's teachings, he properly treats us as proper human beings unlike other slave masters.
#smce103#milton I can't tell if it's just because I missed it but I don't think Adam ever speaks? Why does Eve do all of the speaking and Adam remain silent?
#smce103#milton Ln297-311 I quite dislike how Adam and Eve are described here. They both certainly sound beautiful but there's something particularly off-putting how Milton describes Eve's grace. I can't quite place my finger on it though.
#smce103#milton I always thought Paradise was supposed to be an unreachable place located near Heaven, but turns out its on Earth? Ln208-24 note that its located somewhere near Israel, Iraq, and Syria.
#smce103#milton Ln135-36. I understand these words had different meanings back then but with a modern definition, Paradise sounds very, very not-beautiful.
#smce103#milton "...A thousand demi-gods on golden seats..." (ln 796). Interesting how Milton speaks of demi-gods when he himself is imbedded in Christianity. Are there figures within Christianity that are close to being demi-gods?
#smce103#milton "...Joined with me once, now misery hath joined..." (ln 90) is smack in the center of a long sentence but its kinda interesting. I have little to no clue what the overarching excerpt means but the contrast of happiness and misery now coming together is cool.
@AnyaSanNicolas1 You bring up a very interesting point. I agree with you that fire can mean both but in Christianity, I feel like fire is often likened to Hell and suffering. But then we do have the images of phoenixes from European tales.....
@AnyaSanNicolas1 Agreed. Love poems my ass, these sound terrible. They keep equating it to stuff more associated with death and that's just a big fat no for me.
@apurcell_103 Agreed. "The Flea" is a funky one and tbh I don't like how funky it is bc the details sound like innuendo to me? It just treads all over lines that I didn't expect.
#smce103#donne I don't really understand the final 2 lines of Elegy 19. Was the elegy just an elaborate way to question why women(his mistress) were wearing so much to bed?
#smce103#donne "The Flea" is filled with a lot of uncomfortable descriptions. Just reading it gives me whiplash as I both understand and don't understand what's written in it.
#smce103#donne Quite glad I decided to google the definitions of some words as it turns out "saucy" does not mean what I thought it did. Was about to question Donne's view of the sun for a moment there (916).
