@Jrh15Julia “Sympathetic way” describes it really well. I started wondering this too as I continued to read his lengthy detailed descriptions of how horrible Hell was. #smce103#milton
I like how in some ways Milton manages not to be too repetitive in a long poem. Hell is mentioned frequently but he also uses, “bottomless perdition,” “fiery gulf,” “a dungeon horrible,” etc. #smce103#milton
In the lecture video it was interesting to see the way the books were numbered vs. the actual timeline of events. Also I enjoyed seeing book 1 labeled, “Satan and minions rage in Hell.” #smce103#milton
For some reason the speaker in “The Flea” reminds me of Margery Kempe’s husband asking her if she would allow his head to be cut off rather than allow him to sleep with her. #smce103#donne
In “The Sun Rising” Donne compares his lover’s body to the best resources of the East Indies & West Indies, and in “Elegy 19” he refers to his lover as America, his newfound land. Romanticizing colonization ?? #smce103#donne
I find it interesting how Prospero makes Ferdinand do work for the reward of his daughter, when his plan all along was to willingly give her away for his own gain. #smce103#tempest
@AnyaSanNicolas1 It’s interesting how Ferdinand acting just as naive about love despite having much more experience, actually makes Miranda appear less naive. #smce103#tempest
