Loons used to be full of mercury - from coal-fired power plants. Between regulation and closure of coal plants, mercury emissions way down - and now: "More loons are filling Maine’s lakes with their haunting calls" https://t.co/AfwgSt1uYG via @EENewsUpdates
DOGE is a trojan horse to gut labor, consumer, and environmental protections.
If DOGE actually wanted to cut waste, it would address the massive tax loopholes, government contracts, and subsidies that benefit the wealthy and large corporations.

BREAKING:
⚡ 🇫🇮 🇮🇱 Finland's Foreign Minister Alina Veltonen in a message to Israel:
"I will be clear - Israel's time for self-defense has passed, enough is enough, the residents of the Gaza Strip need a humanitarian ceasefire immediately."
She added that the Israeli government "did not do enough to protect the citizens in Gaza"
Megatron: The Israeli government has not done enough to protect Gazan civilians from genocide and massacre by the Israeli army.

"Putting Kamala Harris as VP into perspective. See the red box? Until then, she would have been enslaved. Blue box? Until then, she couldn’t vote. Yellow box? Until then, she had to attend a segregated school. The green one? Until then she couldn’t have her own bank account."

"This is my wife taking a nap. In an hour she will wake up, put on her scrubs and get ready for work.
The tools and items she needs to perform her job will be gathered and checked meticulously - her hair and makeup will be done quickly. She will complain that she looks awful. I will disagree, emphatically, and get her a cup of coffee.
She will sit on the couch with her legs crossed under her and try to drink it while happily playing with the toddler that's crawling all over her.
She will occasionally stare off blankly as we talk; silently steeling herself for the coming shift. She thinks I don't notice.
She will kiss the baby, she will kiss me and she will leave to go take care of people that are having the worst day of their entire lives:
Car wrecks, gunshot wounds, explosions, burns and breaks - professionals, poor, pastors, addicts and prostitutes - mothers, fathers, sons, daughters and families - it doesn't matter who you are or what happened to you.
She will take care of you.
She will come home 14 hours later and remove shoes that have walked through blood, bile, tears and fire from aching feet and leave them outside.
Sometimes she will not want to talk about it. Sometimes she can't wait to talk about it.
Sometimes she will laugh until she cries and sometimes she will just cry - but regardless of those sometimes she will be on time for her next shift.
My wife is a nurse. My wife is a hero."

I am disturbed & appalled at the suspension of Dr. @yipengGe from @uOttawaPHPM. He is amongst numerous healthcare workers being targeted for speaking against the violence in Palestine. Please sign and share widely. He does not deserve this. -- https://t.co/5qHkEdeYDY
This is the burial site of Leonard Matlovich. Following three deployments in Vietnam, Matlovich earned both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. On March 6, 1975, after a dozen years of service, he handed a letter to his commanding officer, disclosing his homosexuality. Despite his commendable achievements and outstanding military record, Matlovich was declared unfit for service and promptly discharged. He initiated a legal battle to regain his position, swiftly becoming a prominent figure in the gay rights movement during a period when LGBT advocacy was still striving for recognition in the United States.
Here's an excerpt from Matlovich's conversation with Studs Terkel, just a few months following his discharge:
"My philosophy now is that everyone in the world should be allowed to do what they want, when they want, where they want to do it, as long as what they're doing does not violate the rights of another human being.”
"What two consenting adults do in their bedroom is their business and no one else's. And for someone to put them down or... Just that two men can touch and love and have feelings of to want and be wanted and to need and be needed and to desire and be desired and just to love and be loved, I think is very, very beautiful. And that parents growing up today will give our little children guns, and we are very proud of them when they play Cowboys and Indians and run around. But when they show emotions and, and love, and two little boys touch, people get uptight, and they're so afraid that their child may, may love. It's very sad."
