@JeffreyGauthi18@BeltParkway@rwsanders@atrupar There have been modeling studies looking at how many extra cases of ASD would result if MMR vaccination rates drop too low, resulting in a marked increase in congenital rubella syndrome cases.
@JeffreyGauthi18@BeltParkway@rwsanders@atrupar Rubella acquired in utero does result in autism, though, in 10% of live affected births (in addition to microcephaly and intellectual disability). Arguably, as the most absurd irony in the anti-MMR movement, widespread use of the MMR actually prevents some cases of autism.
@BeltParkway@rwsanders@atrupar You think kids without access to vaccines have ready access to detailed diagnostic assessments for autism? Odds are, where babies are being born with congenital rubella syndrome (prevention: MMR), 10% of whom will have autism, most will never be assessed.
@flowinguphill@atrupar No problem. I can always appreciate those speaking out against RFK Jr. He's dangerous, and those of us who provide healthcare to kids have known that for a long time. His current platform has increased the risk he poses many times over. 😔
@flowinguphill@atrupar It is, however, far better than nothing by mid-late infancy, which is the reason it's often recommended for international travel for infants 6-11 months who live in countries that have low measles rates and can therefore afford to wait to age 1 to give the first MMR.
@flowinguphill@atrupar Small correction: newborns aren't vaccinated vs measles. The MMR isn't licensed under 6 months and would be ineffective if it were as cellular immunity is not well enough developed to make good use of it. Even for infants 6+ mos, it's not *as* effective as in 1 year olds.
@atrupar RFKJr is feeding Trump nonsense, and Trump, ignorant as he is, has misinterpreted, making the claim even more absurd. To be honest, I appreciate the bastardization of Brain Worm's prop to make it more obviously ridiculous.
@atrupar For those who don't know where this is coming from, claiming poorer childhood health outcomes in the US are due to giving more vaccines is straight up Children's Health Defense/RFK Jr propaganda.
@michaeld5678@Bushmann007@Antone1956@atrupar The Canadian schedule is very similar to the American schedule, and the only extra vaccine I ever need to give to kids from western Europe as "catch up" is varicella (particularly if from the UK).
@michaeld5678@Bushmann007@Antone1956@atrupar Which vaccine do you think is responsible? Please post supporting data with respect to vaccinations given/not given in those European countries.
@planterspunch7@atrupar He's been fed this nonsense (and likely misinterpreted to make it even more absurd) directly by RFKJr, who has said - even as he says lifestyle needs to be focused on in relation to health - that the poorer child healthcomes in the States are due to giving *more* vaccines.
@tylerblack32 Just seeing Mass, CT, and RI are in the top 5 for vaccination of children, with Louisiana in the bottom 2, should make it clear they're barking WAY up the wrong tree.
@tylerblack32 Unless he can show actual correlation, at minimum, between poor health outcomes and vaccination rate (I'm somehow doubtful that the areas with the highest obesity rates, etc are the *most* vaccinated in the US), he needs to stop spreading his brain worm's beliefs to Trump.
@12503182208@peggy_blair What's unfortunate about that is that the group gave as strong economic recovery AND new safety net like dental care - but Canadians are prone to political fickleness, and the American election proves that average people can be wildly misled in regards to the economy.
@12503182208@peggy_blair It's all a bad move, and they're both unpopular with many Canadians. The LPC needs to distance itself from both of them if it wants any chance in the next election, IMO. I'm not sure the NDP should be keeping Singh, either.
@JuliusRuechel The only hope the LPC has is new blood or someone from the backbenches who isn't associated with the sinking ship at all. Maybe a much lesser-known minister... but certainly not Freeland.
When my daughter was 10 she played soccer. There was a trans kid on her team. The kids didn’t care and they played soccer. At break they all ate oranges.
Stop transphobia.
@sebby_builds@EScrimshaw We have a lot of white people not aligning with what I personally consider to be Canadian values, frankly, since I like to think we're better than intolerance toward immigrants, trans people, etc and bumper stickers and flags that say f*ck Trudeau.
What are we doing about them?
