Two 16-year-olds are alleged to have gang-raped a girl their own age. That is not a youthful mistake. It is a serious crime, and treating it as anything less fails the victim.
Hotels that hand rooms to children are part of the problem. Age checks are not optional. If a minor can book or occupy a room without scrutiny, the system is already broken. Operators who look away should face real penalties, not a warning and business as usual.
Parents cannot carry this alone. Schools, communities, and law enforcement have to treat sexual violence against minors as an emergency, not a headline that fades. Investigations must be swift, prosecutions public, and protection for the victim non-negotiable.
Our children are not bargaining chips for convenience or silence. Protect them by all means possible.
Pilot Smit Machchar, speaking with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi from a hospital in the UAE:
"I feel an immense sense of pride. At that moment, I was fighting for my life, but I realized that if I didn't get up and act – after being seriously injured and lying on the floor – no one else would. I've been flying planes for 17 years and have been a captain for the last 11 years, and I know what's happening on the plane, even with my eyes closed. I knew that only one more push was needed to open the door. Despite my injuries, I opened it, and the rest of the crew came in and did their part. I knew I couldn't let the passengers die."
