We finished reading When The Sky Falls yesterday. It is my favourite class read- it has the rare ability in a children’s book to describe complicated and true-to-life characters. I both love and dread reading the ending. My class have adored it! Thank you @philearle
@MissRosieGraham Yes but only saying that ‘we’re writing a non-chron report’. I don’t do any teaching about the genre or any key grammar. But I try wherever possible to use a genre type we’ve already focussed on so they know the key features and relevant SPaG.
@MissRosieGraham I built curriculum writing into my English planning. I found the pupils writing was of a higher quality when completed in their English book and during English lessons than if we completed it in the afternoon. It also meant there was a good range of writing in their English 1/2
We are recruiting Clerks to Local Governing Boards across our family of schools.

@123_Mr_D @KarlDuke8 @PaulWat5@Mat_at_Brookes@melissacreate15 Yes, a child finds a viewer (view master toys) which has been thrown away and looks though it. It’s full of strange images, some historical, some a bit more dystopian but all dark. Then he’s sucked into the viewer which is conscious and disappears.
@llewelyn20 I do it every year under the visualiser. They don’t do it themselves but if they want to, they can come and touch it and see the features for themselves. My classes have always loved it! It’s one of my favourite units to teach.
@crossy783@MrsLauraLewis@MrTs_NQTs Could I please be really cheeky and jump on this? Would you be able to send something to me as well please? Thank you!
@PrimaryRocks1 We’ve trialing blocking our curriculum so we do 1-2 weeks of a subject. This makes it easier for getting out resources (art/DT) and it hugely beneficial for pupils understanding and long term recall because you aren’t asking them to remember information from 1-2 weeks ago.
@MissEmilyK_ @MrTs_NQTs@MrBoothY6 Thornhill by Pam Smy. I love this book and my year 6s have always produce fantastic writing through our Thornhill unit!
@MissEJJ_ Yes, I do it with my years 6s every year. They’re always a bit squeamish at first but then they all want to have a go at touching it at the end. They always talk about it being one of the highlights of their year! I model it under the visualiser. They don’t do it on their own.
@mr_rushby@MrTs_NQTs@MenTeachPrimary Key knowledge low stakes quiz. I create questions from a subject with knowledge from last lesson, last week, last term, last year. That way they’re always ticking over the important information. We go through the answers together for any who weren’t sure.
