We have been learning about volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis as part of our Geography project so for Science Week we decided to make seismographs. The children worked together to produce working models and were fascinated at recording movement in the classroom. @SummerswoodPS
Our Christmas marble party consisted of some fun filled games and our movie of choice, The Grinch. We also enjoyed some tasty snacks. Here is everyone relaxing infront of the big screen. #SummerswoodPS
Some fantastic pieces of homework were handed in just before the Christmas break. Here are just a few including some models from our Prehistoric unit and posters promoting our school rules. #SummerswoodPS
We have a Christmas card station where children are able to write cards to their friends and family. Many have already written cards but we still have lots available. #SummerswoodPS
Christmas has arrived in 3Wicks. The children have made a class paper chain and snowflakes just in time for the snow. Our postbox is already full of Christmas cards. #SummerswoodPS
In Science we carried out an investigation using flowers made from paper, card and sugar paper. We changed the number of petals and discovered flowers with more petals opened out the quickest. Those made from sugar paper opened out instantly. #SummerswoodPS
In Maths 3Wicks have been finding out why we use bar charts and interpreting information from them. They have also drawn their own bar charts from data tables. #SummerswoodPS
For History we made pots based on pottery made by the Beaker people during the end of the Stone Age. We had lots of fun moulding clay and used a technique that involved rolling the clay into long coils.#SummerswoodPS
Part 1. In science this week we looked at how our skeleton helps to support us. We then had a go at making a support tower from only ten pieces of paper. This investigation allowed the children to find the best shape to use.
This week in English we have been acting out scenes from a very exciting book about a finger-eating troll. The children have been playing quizzes to answer questions about our heroine Gudrun and vocabulary to describe her. They have proved their answers using the text.
This week in maths 3Wicks learned how to solve sums using the formal written method. So impressed by everyone, here are a few from this week. Next week we will be regrouping.
Part 3. Some groups opted for a different shaped structure and were pleasantly surprised when they were able to hold a ball. The class worked very well in their groups and wrote great investigative write ups. @SummerswoodPS
Part 2. They believed cylinders were the best shape to use as they were similar to our own bones. Many of the structures were able to support a ball and the children wrote what they would do better next time. @SummerswoodPS
Another wonder week! In English we focused on sentence structures and the use of conjunctions. All with the help of The Paperback Princess. We also decorated our classroom door. The children wrote exercise related vocabulary on personally designed sportswear. @SummerswoodPS
