DON’T FOLLOW YOUR HEART

One of the greatest lies this world has taught us is to “follow your heart”.
Following your heart often identifies with a passion or feeling that moves you to decide one way or another.
The problem with living by the phrase “follow your heart” is that the Bible disagrees with it, therefore it is no surprise that the world would embrace such a phrase. The world would have us live according to what pleases us, whereas God would have us to live according to what pleases Him.
God explains to us why we should never follow our hearts, because our heart is not trustworthy and is desperately wicked.
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Why would God say such a thing about man’s heart?
It is because man’s heart, man’s desires have been corrupted by sin.
Man’s heart focuses on self-satisfaction rather than on self-sacrifice for the Word of God’s sake.
Genesis 6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
It is for this reason that God compares the heart of man to a stone.
But what happened once God saved you?
He spiritually removed your heart of stone and gave you a heart of flesh. God did not change your wicked heart, He replaced it.
Ezekiel 36
26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
Because the above passage is spiritual language and not litteral, this act by God is not something that can be seen with the human eye.
This passage in Ezekiel describes the spiritual process of salvation, when God gave each of his chosen people a new heart and a new spirit.
Upon salvation, the child of God begins facing a new set of problems, a constant struggle now exists between the new heart given to him by God and his pre-existing sinful nature.
It is for this reason that the Bible no where instructs the child of God to ever follow his own heart, but rather it instructs the child of God to follow God with all of his heart.
In other words just because God saved someone doesn’t mean that now every desire and every thought is going to be in line with God’s word, not at all. Most of the time, the opposite is true.
God explains this struggle this way through the Apostole Paul after God saved him:
Romans 7
14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
God has allowed us to understand that even after salvation, there is a constant struggle between the inward saved man and the outward sinful man.
It is for this reason that we can only depend on the word of God to guide our every decision and not on our own heart or understanding.
Proverbs 3
5 Trust in the Lord (The Word of God)(The Word of God) with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him (The Word of God)(The Word of God), and he (The Word of God) shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
In other words, if one does not trust in the Word of God to guide them, then they are, in effect, leaning on their own understanding.
If one does not acknowledge the Word of God in all their ways, then God is not directing their paths.
And if one does not fear the Lord (obey his commandments), then they are, in effect, being wise in their own eyes (which is actually foolishness) and they are have not departed from evil.
God has made it abundantly clear that we are to only follow His word with all of our hearts (our new hearts) and never follow our own ways.
How can I tell if God has given me the desire for something?� The Bible teaches us that God does work in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
God accomplishes his purposes by moving people or by giving them the desire to be obedient to his commandments. � � But how can we be sure that God has led us to do something?
We can be sure when it lines up with the whole Bible.
For example, if someone is in a grieved marital relationship or facing divorce, their heart’s desire may be to seek happiness with another person. This is very common with the way of the world, but it is completely against the law of God.
We can therefore be sure that God has not given anyone that desire, but rather, that desire has come forth from their own sinful nature.� � 1 Corinthians 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
David was a man after God’s own heart.� King David is a man described by God as someone after His own heart. David was a true child of God, he sought God and sought to keep his commandments because he Loved God.
Acts 13:22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
Psalm 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Psalm 18
1 I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. (A Psalm of David)
Yet David was faced with the same problems any child of God faces today, he had a sinful nature that he struggled with.
As much as we read of David as one who desired to please God by following his commandments, God has recorded for us what happened when David followed his own desires above the commandments of God.
2 Samuel 11
2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
3 And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.
At no time in our lives are we to trust in our own hearts and follow our own desires, but rather we should trust only in the word of God as our only source of direction, only then will God give us the desires of our new hearts. Desires that line up with His Holy Word.
Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Psalm 37
4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Speaking in Tongues is a Sign---of an Unbeliever
A young man commented on an EBF You Tube video:
"Not receiving tongues ??? Speaking in tongues is a sign you have received the Holy Spirit and yes I have received the Holy Spirit AND speak in tongues and in fact have had supernatural experiences before and after receiving the Holy Spirit because the Lord has been with me my whole life guiding me."
EBF response:
No the Bible does not teach that tongues are a sign that one has believed. Instead, the Bible teaches that once the Bible was completed the phenomenon of speaking in tongues is a sign of the unbeliever (unsaved):
1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not:
Once God finished compiling the Bible, in the last book, and in the last chapter of that last book He said this:
Revelation 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
You know, in the days when the Lord was putting together the Bible He broke the barrier of the supernatural through visions, dreams, and tongues in order to bring further divine communication to men which was to be added to the Bible. Once the Bible was completed then all forms of this type of communication from God ceased.
Those who claim God is speaking to them today in a dream, or a vision, or a tongue, are claiming additional divine revelation from God-which if true should be added to the Scriptures. But it is not true because God has forbid any further addition to His Holy Word.
The Bible is all sufficient for God's elect people. Within it lies all the things God wanted to say to His children. It diminishes the Scriptures as insufficient when someone says God is still speaking to them and has something to say to them which is not in the Bible. God has not and will not diminish His own Word in such a way.

A GOOD QUESTION WAS ASKED REGARDING THIS VERSE:
Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so THAT DAY come upon you unawares.
35 ***For as a snare shall it come on ALL them that dwell on the face of the whole earth***.
QUESTION: Why does it say here "...on ***ALL*** them that dwell on the face of the whole earth"?
The importance of any question, is that it causes one to look into the scriptures for answers. Prior to this question, I never gave it much consideration that it infact DOES say that the snare would "come on ALL them that dwell on the face of the whole earth". On the surface it does seem to imply that it is speaking of every human being on earth, but it is not.
The key words which allows us to understand WHO the "ALL" is referring to is the word "them that dwell". These 3 English words are translated from one Greek word, which is Strong's #2521. This word is only translated as "dwell" one time, here, but this word is actually the word "SITTING".
We can therefore read this verse this way: "For as a snare shall it come on all SITTING on the face of the whole earth".
It is important to know that the snare being spoken of that is coming on "that day", is judgment day. Why does God use the Word "sitting" to describe THOSE upon who this snare will come during the day of judgment? Because God's children are STANDING.
Romans 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for WE shall ALL STAND before the judgment seat of Christ.
That is why at the time of judgment, this question is asked:
Revelation 6:17
For the great day of his wrath is come; and WHO shall be able TO STAND?
The answer is, God's elect.
Romans 11:20
Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and THOU STANDEST BY FAITH (Christ). Be not highminded, but fear:
That is also why in the context of 1 Corinthians 10, it is making reference to Israel in the Wilderness, which identifies with judgment day. As we know, within the whole congregation of those in the wildeness, there were those who identified with being children of God but never were. These are they who thought they were STANDING (saved) but continued to fall away.
1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
ALL those, "upon the face of the whole earth) who are "sitting", are referring only to the unsaved of the world.

John 9:1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
Jesus heals this man and gives him sight. Giving sight to the blind is a picture of salvation. Therefore salvation is what is in view by the reference to, "the works of God should be made manifest in him." The works of God in this man's case would be to receive his physical eyesight-pointing to what happens when God does the work of saving a sinner.

The Bible is Currently Judging the World!

God is judging the world through His Word the Bible.

Isaiah 11:4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

And it is the Bible that is declaring that heaven's door is shut and that God has completed His salvation program. It’s all coming from the Bible:

Revelation 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

THE SAINTS EXECUTE THE JUDGMENT WRITTEN

The saints (defined by the Bible as God's elect) fulfill their role in God's judgment program by executing the judgment written.

Psalm 149:5 Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.

6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;

7 To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;

8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;

9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.

That is, we simply share the truths the Lord is opening up to us in His Word the Bible (its the Bible doing the judging).

1 Corinthians 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

THE WORD OF GOD ITSELF IS DOING THE JUDGING

This is why some people feel 'judged' by the things God's people are declaring at this time. They wrongly think that it is the elect child of God who is judging them. When the fact is it is not us, we are not pointing the finger of judgment at any person. However, they are indeed being judged---judged by the Word of God itself.

Romans 2: 5b ... treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and REVELATION of the righteous judgment of God;

The judgment of God is being revealed through the Bible.

SINCE MAY 21, 2011 JESUS HAS BEEN REVEALED AS THE JUDGE OF ALL THE EARTH

Since May 21, 2011 Jesus has been revealed as the Judge of all the earth.

Luke 17:29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

The Greek word found above is the same word used in this verse:

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

How was the "man of sin" revealed? Did we see him with our physical eyes? No. The man of sin was revealed through the reading and understanding of the BIBLE!

That's exactly how Christ has been revealed in this Day of Judgment. Not by physical sight of any kind. But only through the written Word of God the Bible.

THEY SHALL SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING IN THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN

The Great Tribulation ended on May 21, 2011. Immediately after Christ came as the Judge of the world:

Matthew 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

"Come on now, I didn't see Jesus coming in the clouds after May 21. Be honest, He didn't come!".

No, He did not come in the manner we expected. That's true. But the fact is that He did indeed come in the clouds of heaven.

Remember this is the Bible. And the Bible is written in parables.

Therefore we have to ask the question: "What do clouds represent in the Bible?" The answer is not at all surprising:

Numbers 9:17 And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.

18 At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.

19 And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD, and journeyed not.

20 And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the LORD they abode in their tents, and according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed.

Cloud/commandment. Cloud/commandment. Cloud/commandment.

Get it yet? We can all be slow when it comes to picking up spiritual pictures. The clouds represent God's commandments. And God's commandments are found in? The Bible. The Bible is full of God's commandments.

Therefore the clouds represent the written Word of God the Bible.

Immediately after the tribulation (May 21, 2011) Christ came as the Judge of the earth via the clouds (written Word of God the Bible).

THE WORD SHALL JUDGE--IN THE LAST DAY

In case anyone doubts that God's Word the Bible is presently and actively judging the world, consider this verse:

John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

THE WORD Jesus has spoken, which is the whole Bible, the same SHALL JUDGE HIM IN THE LAST DAY.
