Fab revision tonight with S4 Historians @PortobelloHigh pupils retrieving knowledge from memory about civil rights campaigns up until 1968! Fab effort from the team! ✨🧠
A big ‘thank you’ to our guest speaker, Françoise from @HolocaustUK
We were so grateful to listen to personal testimony and learn from lived experience @PortobelloHigh
What a fab lesson- History in the outdoors, led by Lisa Williams from @edincarib who expertly led us around places in Portobello linked to the trade of enslaved people. An engaging way to remember that the trade isn’t just about exams but is a “lesson on humanity” @PortobelloHigh
1/ Today marks the 9th anniversary of Sheku Bayoh’s death in police custody in Kirkcaldy, Fife. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. We hope that the Sheku Bayoh Public Inquiry, led by Lord Bracadale, will bring the justice that they deserve. https://t.co/U3KNbtNiDs
Lots of Modern Studies news today... and yes it's still okay to say Humza Yousaf is the First Minister of Scotland! Wishing all candidates at every level success in tomorrow's QPs.
It was great to end the term with lovely S3 who enjoyed engaging with primary sources, categorising them, interpreting quotations and adding recall- “How Fully” style! ⭐️ @PortobelloHigh
There was evidence of fab group work, focus + a growing sense of confidence! 📚👍🏼
Today’s first task in Higher Modern Studies asked pupils to listen to last night’s #Newscast@BBCSounds as we’ve been thinking about health inequalities- we had lots of discussion about the new smoking proposal and debated its potential effectiveness! Fab work at @PortobelloHigh
I was overjoyed to see young people getting involved with some WW2 home-learning this week! @PortobelloHigh Not only did many people create some ration recipes, but several went above and beyond and actually made some dishes! What a great example of #IDL and #achievingtogether
A huge thank you to @UCL_Holocaust + @hmccord78 for ‘Who were the 6 million?’. I’m looking forward to including Trochenbrod in our Holocaust curriculum @PortobelloHigh to provide a glimpse into the social + cultural life of Jewish people before 1939- an incredibly moving session!
@MissMcDonald13@PortobelloHigh I’m so glad we decided on this one! 😍 it looks like we can use this in so many aspects of what we do! Thanks again for organising! 📚
I’m excited for S3 Historians to be exploring the Somme through soldiers’ eyes. Trevor Royle’s ‘Flowers of the Forest’ is a great way to promote reading + use of primary sources
We are all responsible for the development and love of #literacy!

616 days since the Taliban banned girls from going to school, and 132 days since they banned women from going to university.
The world has completely forgotten the women and girls of Afghanistan. It's the only country in the world that bans female education.
Awesome finish to the term with S3, looking at the causes of crime!
This week’s revision technique was mind-mapping- great practice for future assessment ⭐️ #achievingtogether
Our latest survey shows that the vast majority of teachers work at least one day a week extra and 44% feel poor or very poor wellbeing at work.
The SG must deliver on a reduction in class contact hours to protect teacher wellbeing and pupil attainment.
