@mr_macdonald18 @MissErinOSU practice discussing or collaborating to effectively communicate with my peer. I think having discussion/collaboration in your class would be an effective way to ease this problem.
@mr_macdonald18 @MissErinOSU Hi Zachary! I agree that taking tests with other people, without ever having to collaborate beforehand would be extremely stressful. I remember just doing homework with my friend I would become frustrated because I understood what I was doing but I didn't have enough...
@MissErinOSU develop my own knowledge and understanding of how and why things work, such as algorithms in algebra, geometry, and calculus, but this would have been much easier if I had a better understanding of the basic concepts established throughout my elementary school math career.
@MissErinOSU I feel like a big part of my math education was rote memorization and so for a while I lacked any deep understanding of what the math I was learning really meant. I think when I did start developing a real understanding of math it was because I had teachers who allowed me to...
@mr_macdonald18 @misskalyanova hi zachary! I think you have some really unique insights into understanding this problem and what was going on in this students thought process! I also think itβs good that you acknowledged how you would have started the problem differently, demonstrating the flexibility in math!
@misskalyanova I think it was interesting to watch the students thinking! She started off quickly getting a base ten for 12 I wonder if she would do the same if she had 20, 50, and then what would she do if she got a number like 112? I also wonder how it would be different if she started w 4?
@teacherjada@MissMcElroy_ documentation is always great, and I think documenting with pictures or even videos is a perfect way to show parents. This also ties math into technology and allows students to experience different sites and forms to use educationally!
@__missarmstrong@MissMcElroy_ WOOO to being flexible AND inclusive! I am really glad you incorporated some of what we have been learning in our inclusion class to a specific subject. I think this helps us as future teachers be able to see the benefits of using these activities and tying them together
@harrold_hannah @mr_macdonald18 @MissMcElroy_ Can I just start off with WOW! encouraging students about their ideas also helps them develop as confident little mathematicians, which is exactly what we want!
@teacherljames@harrold_hannah@MissMcElroy_ you both make great points! process work is so so so important and using pictures to document just makes sense! It's also a great way to SHOW parents what their child is doing rather than just explaining
@missckellyy@MissMcElroy_@CalahHouk said something similar about allowing the students to demonstrate their ideas! I really like this because not only does it promote flexibility but it also encourages students to try new things and show them that there are multiple ways to be βrightβ
@CalahHouk@MissMcElroy_ I love the idea of having/using many types of mediums in the classroom! I also think having students explain what they did helps others and even often themselves better understand their ideas/thinking process!
Q5 #OSUElemMath From the readings and videos in CGI, we can note the variety of ways students view and solve problems. How do we promote flexibility within the strategies students are using while still being able to document and keep track of progress?
@MissHuston23 excited when they can tie something in from their personal lives to school and I think this is one good way of doing that!
yikes! sorry for the tangent:')
@MissHuston23 ways we could figure out how much farther Timmy threw his ball?". This also gives you some insight into the children's lives and in this case activities they like to do in their free time. This has to be modeled and talked about in class at first, but children get really...
