21 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Ekurhuleni Operation Prosper as Police Seize Explosives, Drugs, Counterfeit Cigarettes and Large Illegal Mining Equipment Haul
Twenty-one illegal immigrants were among several suspects arrested during a week-long Operation Prosper/Karabo conducted in the Ekurhuleni District. The coordinated law enforcement operation targeted a range of criminal activities, including drug possession, explosives, counterfeit cigarettes, and illegal mining-related offences across multiple locations in the province.
Throughout the week, additional suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, possession of explosives, and possession of counterfeit cigarettes. The operations formed part of ongoing disruptive efforts in Ekurhuleni, where police continued to intensify action against organised crime networks and individuals linked to illicit economic activities affecting local communities.
Authorities also recovered a significant amount of illegal mining equipment and materials during the raids. Items seized included 104 phendukas, 21 steel pot crushers, 11 explosives, 19 generators, six gas cylinders, three hammers, three stampers, and five phenduka stands, all linked to illegal mining operations.
Law enforcement said the disruptive operations will continue to dismantle illegal mining activities and curb crime in the province. Communities have been urged to work with authorities, avoid harbouring illegal immigrants, and report criminal activity through Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or via the MySAPSApp for anonymous tip-offs.
